    Brown Spots

Yes, a beautiful white with green flecks of mint. Once out in the air for 24 hours though brown started leaching out the mint itself is staying mostly green but it must be the oils in the mint that are yellow and brown spots on my beautiful white soap!

    Brown Spots

I made an olive oil rebatch yesterday and added peppermint as an accent. Someone told me this herb would hold it's color in soap. It looked beautiful coming out of the molds, almost pure white with beautiful green flecks, but today it has brown spots all over and the soap itself has darkened...

    Extra Virgin

I will look for the word "Pure Olive Oil on the label and wording that supports that on the ingredients/information section. According to regulation from Ian's text: "Pure Olive Oil, by definition, is a blend of refined olive oil and virgin olive oil. It cannot contain rectified oil, that...

    Benzoin

Im not sure. I was using Norma Coney's book. She has a lot of rebatch recipes. It seems to me that the recipes she has that use fresh ingredients like avacado lemon rind etc all call for powdered benzoin. So I thought it was to preserve the fresh contents in them. But I am told by others that...

    Benzoin

I have the powdered benzoin. When I add to it to warm soap it turns into gummy lumps. I only add 1tsp per 24 ounces of soap. Does anyone know how to stop it from getting lumpy?

    Extra Virgin

I do believe the word organic is regulated. For soapmakers at least, I know you cannot label and sell a product as organic unless you have gone through a certification process. So just making an assumption that there is little risk that the Organic olive oil is extracted with a chemical...

    Extra Virgin

I have been looking into it. I read tha the best kind to get for any oil is cold pressed. I don't think they have to show on the label the method they used but I do know I have seen products featuring cold pressed method.

    Any knitters or sewers?

Most important thing I learned was that there is a lot of trial and error with candle making you have to pick the wax you are going to use. Then you will decide your wick size based on wax type fragrance and color. The wick size changes for the size shape color and fragrance of each candle you...

Can you use glassware as moulds?

not to be a nudge or anything but if you are in anyway aiming for a chemical free product, vaseline is made with ppppppetroleum products. I think they do make a nonpetroleum jelly too................. Sorry to be a pain. ;(

Can you use glassware as moulds?

I use tuna cans and I take a little olive oil and rub it around in the tin then I pour the soap in. I put mine in the freezer and if it wont shake out then I set it in a little hot water to loosen the bottom. It will usually pop right out.
