Hey all! I am very new to the soap making craft. Ive done a little research but I still have a few questions. Mainly, which process is right for me. I would like to be making an all around good soap . Im not intereseted in anything fancy or overly fragrant, but rather a soap that cleans well and is good for the skin. so far im thinking CP? I guess what im trying to ask is...what are the advantages of CP over melt and pour? any advice is good. Thanks

For me personally, the advantage of CP vs M&P is that I can control exactly what goes into CP and M&P bases generally contain more chemicals than I am comfortable with. Because of that, I haven't even tried M&P so someone who has done both will be better quipped to answer the pros and cons of each method. The only advantage I can think of w M&P is that you don't have to handle lye yourself, which to me isn't a biggie at all.

As far as which actual method to make soap from scratch, that's all so individual. I love CP, and I know there are many who love HP. There are variations too, which you'll find info on just by reading here. I'd try some of all to see what feels right and what you enjoy doing.
I enjoy the whole process, from making my own recipes to selecting fragrance and color, I really like controlling everything about the entire soap. Will it be swirled or plain? Will it contain milk, silk or other "exotic" additives? It's all fun and fascinating to me, but then I have only been soaping since October, LOL!
Have fun with it!

ive never done m&p. There is hp and cp, they are made differently, but both make good soap. You can both in a crock pot, i dont like to mess with the stove.
Do you have a good instructions? book, online tutorial? I did the hp first, then to cp, i still do both.
Have fun. Do you need some good recipes, i will email you some.

I think CP is a good way to start...you get to control your own recipe, and really get a handle on the variables that make a soap good. I feel that HP soap is a wonderful and fun method too, but I recommend people try the CP method first.

I'm just not a fan of M&P, although there are some very talented M&P soapers out there that really make some gorgeous stuff.

PM'ing you!
