Been playing today. One of my layered bar soaps didn't take properly, so re-melted it and made several novelty soaps. All are orange ginger - the brown dots are ginger and nutmeg. I used orange fo.

Some Lemons (Lemon Verbena with poppyseeds)... I don't really like these - should have left out the seeds!

I've decided to also make soap dishes from old dishes and candlesticks or wine glasses. I made about ten of them today. The shop where I sell my soaps are interested in selling them, too. I was just using a few of them for display purposes, then the owner said she wanted to sell them. Kinda Shabby Chic. I will put some bead fringe on some of plain ones I have.

It was nice to get some time today to get several batches done!

I absolutely love your soap dishes, do you glue the glass to the bottom of the plate? You are right, they are very shabby chic, but so lovely!!
Your soaps are all lovely, I love the hearts with the pink curls inside.
Great job, you do really lovely stuff!
And I do like the poppy seeds with the lemons.

Thanks to all!

Re: Soap dishes....Funny, I was going through Flickr one day to find some display ideas for my jewelry, and one of the jewelry makers had done something similar only with big plates and full size wine glasses. Then, when I was in Goodwill one day, I remembered the idea when I saw all the stemware and saucers. The saucers will probably work the best (vs. the bowl), because they have the little thingy in the middle that will keep the soap out of the water.

Best thing about them... very cheap. Less than a dollar to make (sometimes less than 50 cents!).

I use Alene's glass and bead glue - so far it seems to work fine. Just run it around the rim of the stemware and then center it in the bottom of the plate.

Thanks for the compliments - they are very easy to make!

The soap curls idea I got from goplanetearth, only I didn't make my own soap bed. I have found myself looking at plastic in a whole new way. I made my flat mold from the packaging froom a clear rubber stamp set. It's the front of the package, and it is only 1/4" deep and has edges all around it. Just poured in the soap, let it set up for about 5-6 minutes, then rolled it up, put it in the freezer for about five more minutes, then cut it. I re-freezed them and used them frozen so they wouldn't melt when the warm soap was put on them. (Goplanetearth suggests making your own mold from paper, but I thought this worked perfectly!)

Had fun yesterday - wish I had started a little earlier in the day so I could have made more of everything!

  great job how did u do the tie-dyed :?:

I melted small batches of colored soap and a large batch of white soap, then poured white on one side and one of the colors on the other side, then switched and poured white on the otherside, then the other color on the other side. It was all kind of simultaneous, no layering. It swirled a little bit, but by using the white as I poured on each side, the white kind of served as a barrier. It was kind of an experiment, and luckily it turned out.

very nice soap, do people like "shapes" better than rectangle?

I don't know... this is new for me. I have my soaps in an artists co-op, and it is very unusual and... well, artsy. So I'm hoping that these will be a good fit. I also have plain bars - oatmeal, peppermint, coffee, etc., but even those have some type of design or appeal to them. We'll see. I will let you know what is selling - if anything! Bars are priced from $3.50- $4.50, sets of novelty soaps are running anywhere from $5 - $6.50. I also have some parfait glasses filled with bath salts, which are $12. So we'll see. The store is out of town, so I don't have any way to check on sales until I get my print-out at the end of the month. But I'm sure chomping at the bit to know. I don't want to be making things that won't sell!
