I’m 90% sure the spots are scorched powdered buttermilk I decided last minute to add to my oils. The pour was lovely and I had really high hopes until I took it out of the oven I CPOP’d in the next day.

There are brown freckles throughout. Scorched milk powder is purely cosmetic - right? The soap does not need to be tossed.

Hi,
Some questions come to mind:
1) have you made this recipe before without the buttermilk?
2) have you used this fragrance before?
3) is this the first time you've used this buttermilk powder in soap?
4) did you strain your AV?

Not sure any of these will lead to the cause, but may.

Hi,

Thank you for your help!

1) Not this exact recipe but similar with slightly percentages (see example below). I’ve also soaped with AV frequently and do not always strain out the pulp (it’s typically very very little)

3) It is the first time I used the fragrance oil.

2) it’s not the first time I have used this buttermilk, BUT, I did add sobitol water to lye that spiked the lye temperature after it had cooled down. I then did a quick ice bath for the lye, but maybe it didn’t all cool down? I guess it’s also possible that the sorbitol increased the temperature in the batter. 🤷

Below is a similar recipe with buttermilk but no brown discoloration. I wonder if the spike temperature with sorbitol water is what caused the scorching (if it was scorching)
