I've done a couple batches of beer soap with Lard as one of my ingredients. The remainder are castor, coconut & olive. I'm thinking of replacing the lard with Crisco and the qualities of my finished bar when run through soap calc don't change dramatically. The biggest changes look to be the level of Linoleic which would jump from 8 to 15 and the iodine level.

Is Crisco a commonly used lard replacement or would something else be more suitable? Maybe replacement isn't the correct term. Alternative might be a better option. By the way the lard makes up 22% of the recipe.

Palm oil is a more stable replacement and is very similar in character to lard.
