Greetings all, I have been a member for a while, but never introduced myself.

I go by Fernie with most people. It is a nickname I was given a few years back that actually stuck. Soaping is a hobby that I make a few dollars doing. Not something I do to get rich, just enough to keep me busy and to get more supplies. Some of my other hobbies/interests are baking, camping, fortune-telling, knitting, crystals, animal farming, gardening, ceramic painting, reading, cross-stitch, video games, bee-keeping, walking, writing, and yoga.

I have 6 children who range from 13 to 20 years. They love to test the new soaps when I make a batch. Yes, they test a bar from every batch even if I have made it before. They are my quality control department. 😂 The kids' favorite one that I can not keep on hand is my dish/laundry soap. 🧼 I make my soaps with CPHP (Crock Pot Hot Process) mostly using lard and/or co (coconut oil). I do not plan to make any of the pretty soaps. They are too pretty to use IMO. The ones I make are very simple and plain.

Like I said plain and simple is what I make. Most people say boring. I enjoy them. The above two were colored by the ingredients. I actually have tried colors and they don't always work for me. The one below is the face bar I made for my teenagers. It is colored by the activated charcoal I added. I only put in 2 tsp. but for some reason, it came out darker than the dark chocolate peppermint soap I made with two TBSP.

I have a small farm where we raise sheep, peafowl, hogs, turkeys, chickens, geese, ducks, rabbits, and goats. I hope to add some cattle, horses, and either emus or rheas in the next few years. It will make things interesting here. There are three Yorkies that reside here, Daisy aka Brat is the oldest and a complete spoiled diva brat. Ellie aka Bean is the middle one and the smallest at 5 lbs. and Dobby aka Weirdo is the youngest at 2 years. We also have two Great Pyrenese and a Karakachan all females. The GPs are being trained on the female and young sheep and goats. The Karakachan mostly guards the hogs and the male sheep and goats.

I don't make a lot of 'fancy' soaps myself...I a lot of single-color soaps, one 3-color soap, a bunch of 2-color and one layered.

I am horrible. I do one color. I have tried to play with colors and they never turn out so I stopped. My lavender soap gets some alkanet root. I do add powdered chocolate to my chocolate peppermint soap, which makes it a cream color with brown spots. My face soap is black.
Most of my soaps are just solid colored. I do love looking at all the colorful soaps, but I know I will never manage to get anything close. I have tried I just don't have the ability. Might also be that I don't use water for the liquid in most of my soaps.
