I have this amazing sugar doodle fragrance that I have an idea for making soap with but the idea involves sprinkling a little granulated sugar and cinnamon over the top for that whole sugar coodke cookie effect. Is this something that can be done?

It will melt as soon as any water hits it and it might attract bugs or vermin in the interim.

How about using glitter or mica instead? MMS now has a line of colored glitter that is soap safe.

What judymoody said. Also, if there's any degree of humidity in the air, it'll get gross and sticky. I would use soap/body-safe glitter or mica instead. I have a mica called Diamond Dust mica from Oregon Trails that lends a nice sugary sheen on my soaps.

IrishLass :)

I was afraid of that. . . Well would just a sprinkling of cinnamon effect it in any adverse way? I would love to use glitter but I don't have any at the moment and don't want to order anything yet.

I used cinnamon to top a recent kitchen coffee soap and so far, so good! Here's a pic:

Thanks! That is actually the look I was going for too!

I have used cinnamon several times to top bars, it works great. I have also used cocoa powder. I have seen the sugar done on soaps on Etsy and was going to ask on here what people thought. It looked really nice. But I see that it might be impractical.

hah -- when i was starting out i had the brilliant idea to make a black and orange halloween soap and decorate it with candy corn. oooh, very bad idea. it looked really cool for about a week, until the candy corn started to melt, making a sticky, ooey gooey and totally ruinous mess. i had to trash it ;)

course sea salt crystals on top look like rock sugar and will hold up just fine...

I always sprinkle the tops of my soaps with a coarse organic cane sugar or Sugar in the raw I do Cinnamon too. It looks delish & I've never had an issue of any kind.
I just did a Fresh snow (Bramble berry) soap & I did it with a pearl blue mica & white swirl & I topped with very sparkly sugar crystals for making sugar cookies Its BEAUTIOUS! I don't like to use glitter mica because alot of people don't want glitter everywhere & I know once you go Glitter you never go back! you & anyone who uses your soap with be haunted by the glitter fairy FOREVER!!!!
I do mist with Alcohol before sprinkling the sugar & I do CPOP. so it really doesn't have a chance to get gooey or sticky & it never melts because its not hot enough.

I've also used sugar on the tops of my CP and CPOP soaps without any problems. I mostly use regular, white, cane sugar and it's held up just perfectly. I've never used an alcohol spritz on the top of my soap, but now I know that it works well with sugar. I just intermittently sprinkle the sugar on top after it's firmed up a bit. I did a CPOP with sugar for the first time this past week and it turned out fabulous. I was concerned that the sugar might melt, but it didn't.

I hadn't planned on CPOP with the sugar on top, but the FO I used reversed trace and thinned out my soap. I was scared it wasn't going to firm up so I popped it in the oven and all turned out well! :)

Thats good to know - I make cupcakes, and I love glitter, but I have seen the coloured sugar on cake websites and I have wanted to try it.
I've used a lot of cake decorations without any probs - the little shiny balls (can't remember the name hehe) and the icing flowers etc, my only concern is how long the colour will hold up, but so far so good.

I've found that using sugar on top of freshly-made CP soap tends to melt, either immediately or down the road. I have, however, used it on Nizzy's whipped soap recipe and it lasts beautifully. Since the soap is cold, there's no melting. I've had cupcakes sitting for at least a couple of months with no sugar issues.
