So I decided to do another batch today in honor of the Super Bowl which I seldom see past halftime. Besides the decrepit musicians the games are pretty boring to me and naps are heaven sent. Anyway, I was thinking of experimenting with color and fragrance for the first time, got it figured out and started gathering. AAARRRRGGGG!! Just a smidgeon of CO left! I only had a quart to begin with. Guess I'll start ordering gallons for now. Can something be used as a close replacement? Crisco? Wesson oil? Bacon grease? Lots of that on hand! Bummer. While waiting for a reply I'm going to order. I wanted to make soap today.

Let's see. I have OO, PO, Castor, lard, Jojoba. This is for a small safe batch.

You can make perfectly good soap without CO. Add some sugar to the water, and stir til dissolved, then add the lye. Sugar in soap = bubbles, which is all you're really missing with CO. IMO of course ;) It won't be as bubbly, but you'll still have good soap.

Thank you. While going through the list I noticed "Palm Oil - RBD". What is RBD? My order before at Essentials Depot didn't have any of those designations.

I think RBD means refined, bleached, deodorized.

Coconut oil has gone up in price dramatically over the past month or so. It might cost the same to just get it at your local Wal Mart super center if you have one, once you factor in shipping. Look for Lou Anna brand.

I wish any Wal*Mart I've ever been to had it. I do get my lard there, though. Cheap by the bucketful!

I've been to Wal*Marts in Upstate NY, New Jersey, South & North Carolina, and Pennsylvania. Super Wal*Marts, regular Wal*Marts, whatever. Never any coconut oil.

I buy LouAnn's Coconut Oil at Walmart also. It comes in 31.5oz container and costs $5.12 here. As mentioned it may be regional. I'm in the South and LouAnn products are quite common here.

I must be in the wrong part of the deep south. I feel a road trip coming on after I explore all the stores in town. Southern Mississippi isn't that far and I can visit a couple of casinos. 8) Maybe WalMart in Mobile. Anyone here from Mobile? Alabama, not the other one.

I'm in Virginia and every single Wal-Mart, Kroger and Food Lion I've been to has LouAna coconut oil. Saw it in Kroger this week for $4.99.

I've been using (because I've read others doing the same) 1 Tbsp PPO.

I know the Walmart here in Madison (WI) doesn't carry coconut oil. WHen I asked, they said they stopped carrying it, but didn't know why.

Probably too late, but you could make a nice bastile soap with what you have. A 90% OO and 10% castor, or a castile with 100% OO.
