I am making cp soap with goat's milk (no water). I mixed my lye and goat's milk and now it looks like beer (gold/orange on bottom with a separated lighter color on top. I stirred it again and now it is doing it again. Is this normal?

eta- it is in an ice bath...

Was your goat's milk frozen? The color is normal... just stir stir stir stir stir stir stir (not fast, just for good while)

thx for the quick reply. it was slushy...gonna add my sugar and mix w/ oils...wish me luck! :)

In my experience, when the lye is poured into the slush, it immediately looks burnt orange and needs to be stirred into to the milk quickly so it doesn't scorch any of it (I add the lye in small amounts)

Thanks for the reply. I poured slow and stirred and everything was good. I was expecting the orange. I started mixing my oils and looked over at it and it looked like beer- wasn't expecting that. :) I stirred more, went back to oils, and it did it again but not as bad. Stirred more, put it in with oils and everything looked normal. Guess time will tell.

Thanks again for the quick replies :)

np :) It's just a guess, but it may have been getting too warm, restirring was good. I think it will come out just fine.

I like to mix my lye with a bit of ice water, then add the milk when ice cubes are melted. put your GM in an ice tray and use them as cubes.
