    natural Blue color

To me, out of the bag, woad smells like a chicken house...lol Fortunately, that scent doesn't persist through saponification.

    natural Blue color

This is woad at 1.0 g PPO + indigo at 0.5 g PPO. The blue wasn't as intense as I wanted it. I would feel safe upping these rates and I am sure you could get some very nice results.

    Natural Colours for lavender purple?

I haven't used alkanet enough to have a true grasp of its possibilities. I have created nice pinks with French pink clay and pale blues with woad and indigo. I bet you could do all three in different combinations to get some very nice purples.

    My first seize....

I see what you are saying. I must have been lucky; it seems that the FO that would seize for me wasn't as bad as some. I never had any problems with lye pockets or separation.

    My first seize....

I had a FO that would seize. You would think...okay, the temp is low enough, I'm working fast, I got this....than BAM! in a blink of an eye it would happen. I'd glop, push, and squish it into my loaf mold. But, I always though seize soap, although it wasn't much to look at, always was a...

What to do with a cabbage?

I used to make it and it would be mild. I always liked to eat it uncooked in salads. That is really the healthiest way to eat it too. You get all of the good bacteria :-)

    Alkanet Root Powder as Colorant

I just used black tea bags. I threw them in the lye water right after i added the lye. The lye solution got really dark, but the soap lightens up a lot.

    So glad for the weekend!

Sounds nice! I always get a little ash on top. Seems like I should be spraying with alcohol. How does it work? just 70% isopropyl alcohol in a spray bottle? give it a little spritz once you pour? Thanks!

what do you listen to when you soap?

"Philip Glass" channel on Pandora. There is a natural rhythm of circular motifs to his music that seems to help me concentrate.

    Alkanet Root Powder as Colorant

Ryan, Many of the plant based powders that are made from colorful plant parts fade to brown after saponification. At trace you could have the most beautiful green...after a few weeks of cure...you get brown. For a nice consistant brown, I have used the bars of hard, compressed 100% cocoa...

    2013 soaps part 1

WOW...They are beautiful! The Ozark Mountain Laurel is sensational. I love the embeds and your color scheme....very eye catching. Now I wish I had tried embeds this weekend. I have never done them. Do you have to use soap that isn't completely cured? Thanks for sharing!

    So glad for the weekend!

Spring Cleaning! My soaping this weekend was all about getting rid of odds and ends! -Using up the palm oil because I was gifted beef fat that I rendered and I am going to be using it in place of palm. -Using up some PKO I bought to try but never did. -Using up the leftover mango seed...

    Soap Calculators & Super Fatting

I always use SoapCalc. I have never tried any of the other calculators, because I imagined that they are really all about the same. Since I have used SoapCalc for so long, I have a good idea of how their figures translate into a soap's characteristics. I have a good, basic recipe I pretty...

    WAY too much CLAY!

It's getting harder than usual. I guess maybe that's because of the extra clay.
