Can someone tell me what 2T beeswax weighs?

I'm following a recipe that lists it all by volume, and have to add two tablespoons of solid beeswax to melted oils... I could melt it, measure it, solidify it, grate it.. but hoping someone here knows offhand what a tablespoon weighs. Thanks :-) Eta, oops, this doesn't belong in soap...

Question, are MillCreek fragrance oils unsuitable for CP?

I wanted to try a bunch of their 2 ounce samples, but I notice their heading lists all the things you can use it for, specifically saying melt and pour... does that mean no for cold process? I would think it's still safe to use in cp, just that my outcomes could all vary (color morphs, soap...

How hard can you get soap with KOH?

I've always had this question in the back of my mind. There is a VERY successful soap business on one of the 'tourist' streets here. They say that one of the things that makes their soap 'better quality' is because they don't use sodium hydroxide, they use potassium hydroxide which, (they say)...

    Jojoba oil is comparable to?

Jojoba is technically a wax, not an oil so it's kind of tough to really compare it to oils too much. It's a desired item in skin care because it's very similar to our own skin's natural sebum. I don't waste jojoba in soap - it's not woth it.. Everyone's opinions are different, but I like avocado...

    Pictures of a bad batch..

I didn't want to admit this a month ago, but when I was trying out those wsp silicone molds in the oven, I ended up with lye pockets in one batch  I had never had it happen before, I just packed the bars away curious if (and hoping that) the problem would go away.. I'm not a fan of...

i finally tried taking some real pictures...

I find myself staring at the photos here like a deer in headlights... I'm just not creatively inclined to come up with the gorgeous backgrounds everyone else does - so I generally don't try and let my cell phone take the pictures.. So NO laughing!! I know these are not good - but you have no...

I've been tempting myself with this all morning...

so I thought if I tempted you all with it, it would make it easier lol... I made these late last night... too late to eat a couple. So they sit in my fridge, too early to eat one.. someone remind me that summer is around the corner lol Would you guess that there are only three ingredients...

    When making 100% lard soap...

Does anyone have a favorite sf%, water discount and all that? I bought a giant bucket of lard at Walmart awhile ago and barely use it. The bucket is opened, but sealed with the mighty layer of glad press and seal lol... It still smells fine (well, smells like lard anyway lol) I will cry if I let...

Questions for those who use the oven

I never had much interest in it (not for a 'soap' reason - I just haven't turned my oven on in over a year...) I recently bought the most wonderful microwave/conventional/toaster oven. I made a batch of soap, using a silicone mold. I kind of just eyeballed my way thru its cook. Had the oven at...

oops, my poor soap looks ill lol

I was a little absent-minded when I made a batch of soap last night. I lined the silicone mold with mineral oil, which I didn't need to do.. My soap looks like it was rolling around with a dirty bar and caught a minor disease, eh? lol

Does anyone use hyaluronic or ascorbic acid?

I have been wanting to try it for awhile now, but don't really find much to get me started. I wanted to try a decent night cream base (probably from aqua-tech) and add ascorbic acid to it. I'm wondering how fast the vitamin c will last (I've heard that all vitamin c in a product is gone by the...

What's wrong with my lye? (pic included)

It's weighed out right. I stirred it thoroughly, it all dissolved. I've never seen this before. The lye is from aaa-chemicals who I always get it from. It arrived yesterday in a different container and seemed much 'beadier' than it usually is. I made it 5 hours ago, and left it to get to room...

All the half-truths you can put on a label..

    1. Natural - natural means whatever you want it to mean. I disregard it when looking at the product. 2. Organic - also can mean anything. It doesn't have to be organic. For it to be Certified Organic, you need to pay for that right. 3. Not tested on animals - I don't care what it is.... at...

    Another olive vs. pomace question....

I know it's a covered subject in the archives. It took two years, but I found my favorite recipe - it uses 35% olive oil. I am getting ready to start buying the 35-50 lb containers instead of the 7lb jugs from soapers choice. I would like to get the best profit for my soap and was thinking I may...

How did my soap get these spots?

I have never seen these types of spots before. I assume it's from the goat's milk, but curious what I did that caused it. Or even if you don't know what caused it, but have seen it before yourself. It's a simple recipe that I have used before - lard, olive, coconut, avocado, castor. Lye...

    soap recipe feedback?

Hello :D . I recently got new wooden soap molds (sans lids) and was having a hard time getting a full gel. One was still gelling 20 hours later, and finally stopped and hardened up at 24. Anyway, I made this recipe last night, and it had full gel at 3 hours. Today, sliced and drying, it seems...

    Does anyone make body wraps?

I just realized, with all the herbs, teas, clays, and eo's I have - that I should be giving myself body wraps once a week. Does anyone else?

    My recent order from sweetcakes

I bought a few things from them that arrived today, one was 8 color dye gel pack (http://www.sweetcakes.com/default.php?cPath=29) It seemed so wonderful, you only use the littlest amount on a toothpick and it's supposed to blend easily. So I soaped with it and had trouble. I saw no color, so I...
