Finally got a good shave soap

I don't know. do you have experience with it not bonding with lye?

Finally got a good shave soap

Nope, mine isn't sticky and my castor was 12.5% and my stearic is at 12. I am thinking that glycerin is where its at and will fix me up. I am thinkin i am going to add it at trace though. my line of thinking is that i don't want any of those glycerin molecules to bond to any of the lye so i...

Finally got a good shave soap

Thanks Greensoap! This is what I was hoping to see when I originally posted. Thanks. I have played around with soapcalc alot to get to where I am with my shave soap now. When you use glycerin do you just add it at trace or what do you do? I am thinking on my next batch I am going to up the...

Finally got a good shave soap

I don't expect you to do anything...all I asked was a simple question and I will ask it again...if all of you know so much about soap making you should be able to answer a simple question: How do you get more stable lather by other means instead of using pure stearic acid? Just simply answer...

Finally got a good shave soap

I have just about had it with this forum too, I don't know why some folks on here have to chastise people that are simply asking questions. I am new to soap making, I don't intend on making money doing this. I am doing this because its cool and I want to make my own soap. Not thousands of...

Finally got a good shave soap

so your telling me that you have to have palm in your recipe in order to get hardness for your bar...that makes no sense. Why do many other people make soap without palm? What you just stated is that in order to make a bar of soap with hardness, you must have palm. All I am simply asking is if...

Finally got a good shave soap

I guess I didn't know that shortning had all that stuff in it. But anyway, more so stuff I can just walk into a store and get. What is the best way to do the milk with lye to keep it from burning the sugars and getting that smell? No one knows of another way to add more stable lather other...

Finally got a good shave soap

My goal was to make all natural. Used Lard, Walmart GV shortning and Castor oil. Superfatted at 6% and used coconut milk instead of water. Smells funny with a light brown cream tint to it. It has some great lather! And lasts about 2-3 minutes but I need it to last much longer. It has good...

    Shaving Soap

Think I am going to try and make some shaving soap...anybody got any advice they can give me of what to do and what not to do? Maybe just a basic with palm or olive oil, coconut oil, castor oil, bentonite clay and some essential oil of some sort. Where is the cheapest place to get my...

    HPing expirementing

Just a dumb question I guess...but what difference does it make whether it has 100 grams of water in it or not? Does the soap seem wet or slimey or something?

    Disaster...*UPDATE*

Awsome!! I feel like I have a new lease on the soaping life! Can't wait to make my daughter some soap ;)

    Disaster...*UPDATE*

I didn't know that I could have added water to it at the end and probably saved the batch!?? I will have to put that in my reference file. My recipe ran through soapcalc called for 5.41 oz of water and 2.319 oz of lye. I didn't know that the water was negotiable...thats the first I have...

    Disaster...*UPDATE*

I am going to get a new crockpot too, but in the meantime I guess I will try some cold process soap making...I need a thermometer to do that correct? What type?

    Disaster...*UPDATE*

I put the exact amount of water that the recipe that I ran through soapcalc called for so I am not really understanding that? I will get a more accurate scale and not make another batch until I do. Tabitha: I guess I got lucky on one batch because my child took a bath with it after I...

    Disaster...*UPDATE*

Is there one you recommend for a decent price that I can pick up at Walmart?

    Disaster...*UPDATE*

Hmmm....after mixing the lye, I got side tracked for over an hour and maybe some evaporated? Yeap, it's an old cheapy crockpot and small only can do 1 lb batches. Could be my scale too...not very acurate, only measures to the ounce.

    Disaster...*UPDATE*

I couldn't cook it anymore, it was solidifying in the crockpot...if I would have kept cooking it, it would have completely dried out.
