Can I use Shea in place of high SF in a coconut heavy recipe?

Hi all of you smart soapy people! I've searched for the answer to this and can't seem to find it, sorry if it has already been answered elsewhere. My question is, if I make a batch high in coconut (30%) do I have to do a high super fat even if I use a high amount of Shea? I am hoping for a...

How do sellers use so much Coconut Oil?

Seven, I'm on the same page with you! I was trying to be prudent in how I worded it, but in my mind there were invisible quotation marks around the word "accident" lol!! They have to shake all the copyists off their trail somehow :-)

How do sellers use so much Coconut Oil?

Regarding the labeling of ingredients on aforementioned Bronner's bar... could it also be possible that whoever was in charge of printing the labels just got the olive oil and the mint oil swapped on accident?

How do sellers use so much Coconut Oil?

My questions exactly, Hazel! Not sure why they call it Castille, except maybe obvious marketing purposes. I guess I'm confused because I thought if one were to include salt in a bar, they would use it in much larger quantities that what the Dr. Bronner bar seems to indicate by being close to...

How do sellers use so much Coconut Oil?

Awww yes that's right...salt bars need the coconut to lather. I've heard that but forgot, since I don't make salt bars. One of the sellers did list sea salt on their ingredients, the others didn't. I just found it interesting. One that I was interested in was Dr. Bronner's Peppermint Soap, which...

How do sellers use so much Coconut Oil?

Seawolfe, what do you mean by it would make a difference if they were adding salt? Are you referring to that being the reason the bars are lasting longer?

How do sellers use so much Coconut Oil?

Exactly, Seven! I've seen that a lot...coconut, palm and PK and nothing else. I just think to myself, how does this not melt right down the drain in a few washes with how much superfat that must contain? Must be something like what you said, IrishLass...that makes a lot of sense.

How do sellers use so much Coconut Oil?

Hi all, just a random question that I haven't been able to find the answer to by searching the forum, maybe I just missed it... When looking at the ingredient list of lots of different handmade soaps I come across, especially by some of the larger companies in the handmade soap business, I...

Has anyone used this 5 gallon pail warmer?

Thanks so much for the replies!! The reason I melt that much at one time is because of the cost savings per pound in buying 50lbs at once...however, during winter, after half a day in the garage it is rock solid and waaaay too hard to scoop. "Chisel" would be a better word :) Sent from my...

    Quality over design

Same problem here...I've spent three years coming up with a recipe I adore, and of course it traces sometimes in a minute, even with full water :( Alas, no swirls for me. Would love to see the solutions you all come up with here!!

Lining mold with clear packing tape...possible?

Just curious...has anyone here ever tried lining the entire inside of a box or mold with clear packing tape (shiny side up, obviously) as a semi-permanent liner?? Will the lye eat right through it?? Got the idea while taping up a box for a mold earlier today. Sent from my iPhone using Soap Making

    Storing you soap

Jenneelk, do you give them a little space between each bar once you store them in the plastic containers, or do you squish them all up against each other at that point?
