    Crumbly Castille

Generally this means you have too much lye. Did you do the "zap test" ?

    Rebatch to add colors?

If in doubt, mix with vegetable glycerin with a 1:2 ratio (one part color, two parts water, or glycerin)

    Feedback on Website??

Still very clean - even with black. I have to ask - what are your soap wrapped in? Are they in adhesive bags? I like your packaging!

    No trace

It more than likely didn't trace because you didn't have a stick blender. You can get one at walmart for $11 - A necessity for soap making!

You know you're a soapmaker when...

I often forget what certain kitchen tools are even for, because they've become soap making tools, that are used for something completely different!

    Any good pet recipes?

I've read a lot of things about how natural soap can be harmful to dogs, but I gave it a go anyway (after learning that almost nothing in the pet industry is regulated). I made a bar that was superfatted 10% and was scented only 1/2 of the normal amount with tea tree EO and Neem EO. My dog...

    Lard in Soap

Perhaps you should try vegetable shortening instead of lard? Crisco. It would keep your soaps vegan, and the soaps last a lot longer - and don't end up with a grease smell eventually.

    herbs in soap

Ground loofah doesn't brown! It also doesn't look very interesting :-)

The Zap Test: A Visual Guide

You can also dissolve some of your soap in water, and use a digital PH tester. You can pick them up for pretty cheap. With that said, I prefer the ZAP test. Much quicker :-)

    Shrink wrap soap bands

Depends on type of Soap If you're making M&P soap, you'd want to completely shrink wrap it because it'll sweat and feel gross. If you're making cold process, you can use either, but you have to wait until the soap is completely cured ( a couple months) to fully shrink wrap the soap because it...

My first batch of Lavender Soap

Aluminum Be careful with putting soap on aluminum, even after it's cured. It'll make your pan icky, and the bottom of your soaps gray/brown. Stainless steel, plastic, wood, and glass are fine though!

New to forum want to make goat milk soap

Milk I don't know a good recipe off hand, but I can give you a bit of advice about adding milk to soap... Milk burns easy in soap (lye burns it), and it turns an icky color and smells burnt. To avoid this, divide your liquid requirement in two (if you need 30 ounces of liquid, use 1/2 water...

    My Chef Soap Experience

It didn't seem to discolor!? Very nice. I made soap with coffee/orange, etc., and it turned my soap a very icky color. Yours turned out a lot better than mine!

    infusion vs. eo

Not as strong Unfortunately, your scent wouldn't be nearly as strong with an infusion as with adding the EO. You may not even be able to smell it. Infusions seem to be better at infusing other benefits of a/the plant (not necessary the scent)

    What is this purple colour?

Probably Neon Purple TKB trading in CA has a neon purple powder (that you mix with glycerin). It looks like TKB's neon to me. When mixing with glycerin (or water), use two parts glycerin (or water) to one part color. Generally you need to use a lot of purple, or it turns out an icky gray...

    SoapEquipment.com

I've recently purchased something from soapequipment.com ( willow way ), and I'd like to share my experience too. If you don't have time to read all of this, the summery is: Bad lye tanks, leaky, burned eyes, 50% restocking fees to return an item (for me, it'd be $750 to give something back)...

    Salt Soap

What dye do you use to color the salt? I tried using a salt dye before (with dead sea salt), and when I topped the soaps with the dyed salt, the dye came off all over the soap! The salts melted and the color ran and dripped everywhere. It was a terrible mess! I'd really love to try again...
