    preservative

I've been researching a lot about preservatives. I've read some on this forum but most of my info comes from Swiftcraftmonkey. 1. Yes, preservatives are required for any product that has water in it or even comes in contact with water. 2. GSE (Grapefruit Seed Extract) is NOT a...

    Celestial Colors! <3

These are the first soaps I made with Celelstial Colors! I must say that I love them! Thanks to Krissy who told me about them when I had my "Colorant Tantrum" on the CP board. http://www.soapmakingforum.com/forum/vi ... hp?t=30377 The two toned green is "Basil, Sage and Mint" from NG...

    Colorant Tantrum=RESULTS (Better Pic Added!)

Here are the results of something interesting. I originally had a "Colorant Tantrum" (See this post for original thread: http://www.soapmakingforum.com/forum/vi ... hp?t=30377 ) because of one TKB's colors not coming out the way I had anticipated. So I inquired about what others were using...

    gremlins :(

So who sent the soap gremlins to my house? I had a great soaping day yesterday. Or so I thought. My 2nd batch turned out great. But my first one? Not so much. :( Same recipe but different FO's. Started getting some separation with the one FO but I beat it back together. Or so I...

    Brambleberry lotion kit

I decided I wanted to try making lotion so I figured the easiest way to go about it was to purchase a kit. Everything was in it that I needed to give it a whirl. http://www.brambleberry.com/Lotions-Kit ... P3293.aspx I've been doing a lot of research on making lotions so I felt pretty...

    garlic-y

I'm signing up for a booth at the local garlic festival in August. I'd like to bring a "special" soap for the Fest. This festival is known for it's Garlic Ice Cream. I've had it. It was ok. I don't need to have it again. :? I'd like some soap that is fun and memorable but totally...

    colorant tantrum

Arrgh! Just made yet another batch of soap with "soap safe" micas that I got from TKB that didn't turn out. I used the Emerald Green mica and it turned to lovely shade of dark grey. Too bad that wasn't what I going for. I wanted GREEN dang it! Not grey. Of course, I bought the...

    wick trouble

Can you help with my wick problem? I know I have to prime the wicks before pouring. I've attached the tab and glued the tab to the container and pulled it straight with a wick pin...(sorta..I used a clothes pin but it was tight) but I've had some trouble with the wick not burning straight...

    Ordered a tank! (Pictures added!)

Ordered my Tank today! Whooo-hoo! Happy Dance, Happy Dance! Finally...consistent sized bars! Right now I've got a sorta mitre box type thing that my DH made for me...it was great as a starter but I was getting various weights on my bars. Anywhere from under 3 ounces to over 5 ounces. :(...

Get your sunglasses out...this is a bright one.

There have been so many beautiful soaps posted that I've always been a little intimidated to post mine. Until now. 8) This one makes me oh so proud. It's colored with the Pop Micas from TKB and scented with NG's Tropical Blast. I did a column pour and it started to get a...

    tweak my recipe?

I'd like to ask for some help with my lip balm recipe please. :?: I got the recipe several years ago off the internet somewhere...sorry, I can't remember where. Those where the days of collecting recipes and not remembering to credit the originator... . Sorry. .50 Beeswax .60...

    discoloration / Frosted Pinecone

We all know that FO/EO's with vanilla in it will discolor. This I know and am prepared for. However I was taken by suprise when Frosted Pinecone from NG discolored on me because it doesn't have any vanilla listed in it. http://www.naturesgardencandles.com/can ... e-Oil.html Love the...

    candy molds

I found some really awesome candy molds from the thrift store today and I want to use them for M&P. Good idea or bad idea? They aren't as flexible as silicone molds. If I'm concerned about sticking should I just rub mineral oil in the molds before pouring the soap? Any other suggestions?

    wooden wicks

I saw some candles with wooden wick at a craft show a couple of weeks ago. So I started doing some research on wooden wicks. I'm wondering if they work well or is just a new thing that literally sounds better than it is? There is an old thread on here that was starting in 2008....but there...

    Paper embeds into M&P

I had a co-worker come to me with a picture of something she found on the internet. It seems that a soapmaker embedded dollar bills into what looks like M&P soap. She gives their kids cash for Christmas but always tries to find really creative ways to give it them. I thought that was an...

    M&P Ash?

I was just reading an early topic questioning whether M&P can get moldy. Soapbuddy said it was just soap ash. I didn't know that M&P got ashy. I did a couple of small decorative batches of M&P that got fuzzy on me. (fuzzy...for lack of a better term) So that was ash. I see. What did I...

    curing soap logs

I read this incredibly inspiring soap PORN  blog. Someone here on SMF posted the link a while back. (Sorry, I don't remember who posted it, I would so totally give you credit if I could!) I am so happy that I subscribed to it! WOW! Stunning stuff on here. Anyway...reading over the...

the use of EO's vs FO's

I got into a very friendly discussion with another soaper about the use of EO's vs FO's. I thought that I had read that there is belief that the EO will lose some (if not all) of it's "theraputic" value when combined in the CP process. Mostly because the lye monster will eat it up. Or...

    average superfat

I'm curious... What's the overall average superfat percentage for YOUR basic soap recipe? Calculators default at 5% but some soapers swear by 7%. That got my curiousity going.

    swirling help???

I’ve been soaping for over a year and a half now. I’ve come up with what I think is a good recipe. I haven’t had any trouble with DOS, it has a rich lather that is moisturizing and is a nice solid bar. HOWEVER! I can not make a decent swirl with it to save my soul. Multiple tries with...
