rebatching soap shreds by melting into new oils

I rebatch using this method: Use a 1/3 - 2/3 ration. 1/3 soap shreds, 2/3 new oils If I make a 32 oz batch, I mix 20 oz of new oils and 12 oz of soap shreds. Mix the correct amount of lye/water for the 20 oz of new oils only. Add the soap shreds to the melted oils and stickblend until...

    Jewelweed Soap

I've made a soap with dried mugwort in it for my son to help with poison oak. He worked as a wildland firefighter in California and it was everywhere in the hills there! Dried mugwort is hard to find, but it did the trick for him. I used Tea Tree eo also.

Anyone have any thoughts on this mold?

I just bought one of these to try. The thing I notice is that it's just a tad shy of being a full 8" long. My bars are 1" thick so now I'm going to have one that's just a little thinner. Anyone else notice this?

which essential oils will make a chai scent?

I make a blend with cinnamon, clove, anise, a titch of eucalyptus, rosemary and lemon. It smells absolutely delish!! Then I put the chai tea in with the lye water and strain it when I put it in the oils. Colors the soap a wonderful dark brown color.

    Warning Graphic pics.

Oh man, that looks so painful. I sliced off a piece of my finger last week, shaving a bar of soap. That was so painful, can't imagine what this feels like. I always unplug my SB. It's so easy to accidentally hit the button. Thanks for the reminder.

Help with this sugar scrub receipe

I personally don't like using CP shreds for sugar scrubs. I never could get it to melt down to a nice, fluid consistency. I think MP works better in that regard. Never had it foam though with CP shreds.

    Planar/beveler

I use the same tool that Carebear does. I don't like my planer for the corners. Seemed like it took too much of the edges off. Love this cornering tool though - nice consistent edges.

I am! I live in Riverton. No really a newbie to soap, but haven't spent a lot of time on this forum - more time spent on another one. But the people on this forum are MUCH nicer!

    I want a harder bar!!

I think the castor oil might be the culprit too. Try a batch without and see how you like it. I don't use it and have amazing lather.

    A 'thin' rebatch?

When I rebatch, I use 1/3 of shredded soap and 2/3 of new soap, meaning I make a small batch of soap and add the shredded soap to it. Stick blend well and it pours into the mold really well. What I mean is for instance 20 oz of new soap and add 10 oz of shredded soap to it. Lye water amount...

    A Sad Story of Soap

What did you use to line your mold? It looks like wax paper to me. That could be the problem. Use freezer paper. It won't let the soap soak through it. I have had that happen when I used mylar and the soap came in contact with the soap. If it doesn't zap, you can cut the edges off and it...

    Beveler

I use a cornering tool by Veritas that I purchased at a woodworking store. It works super! So much easier to use than a potato peeler. Here's the link so you can see what it looks like. http://www.veritastools.com/Products/Page.aspx?p=195

    Shampoo Bar....burned!

I would suggest that if you do contact the soapmaker again that you do it in writing. And keep a copy of what you send her. If for some reason you have residual side-effects, which I hope you don't, then you have a record of your conversation. Thanks for sharing this though. It...

    Lining a mold

This is a good tutorial: http://thenovastudio.blogspot.com/2010/ ... eezer.html Personally I never did get super smooth sides using freezer paper. Silicone is the only way to go. But mylar is a good alternative to freezer paper too.

    Shampoo Bar....burned!

Might not hurt to have an attorney contact her so you could file an insurance claim and recoup the cost of your medical bills. Are you sure your eyes will heal okay? Isn't this the whole reason we carry liability anyways? That, and the fact we should be selling a quality product in the...

I need some likes on my FB Page, please :)

Be careful when you get your custom URL. I just set my business FB page up, got 25 likes and when I set up my URL, it linked back to my personal page. I did exactly like FB said to do, and it didn't work. Real pain!!

    Business Facebook problem

I set up my business Facebook page, got 25 "likes" and then set up my custom URL. Only problem is - it directs to my personal page and not the business page. I've googled the problem and can see that I'm not the only one with this problem, but for the life of me, can't figure out how to...
