    WSP Silicone Loaf

Do these molds absorb the fragrance from your soap batches? I have a wood mold with silicone liner. The liner pulls away from the soap beautifully, but all of my batches smell the same because they take on the smell of the liner..which has become a blend of all the different fragrances. If these...

    Superfatting

Does anyone know why she says this? The only exception to my 5-8% rule is for castor oil. I won't bore you with the scientific reasons as to why this is so, but you should only use a 5% maximum discount for this particular ingredient. http://www.soap-making-resource.com/sap ... table.html

    Soapmaker 3,

I had trouble with that transition, too. I think fluffy lather correlates to cleansing value. What I did is create a recipe on SoapCalc with the values that I liked, then I set that recipe as the benchmark in Soapmaker. It is much easier to tweak a recipe in Soapmaker because you can see the...

My lotion separated...can it be salvaged?

Fractionated Coconut Oil 4.3% Jojoba Oil 9.8% Cocoa Butter 12.8% Beeswax 5% Water 68.1% Did not check temperatures, but I am assuming that the water was much hotter than the oil/wax mixture...

I still don't understand Cococnut Oil

Thanks IrishLass...I agree with carebear, nice explanation.

I still don't understand Cococnut Oil

I use CO in my soaps and I love it. I also understand that it should be limited because it is drying to the skin. However, if you make a 100% CO soap, and you SF @ 20%, supposedly the soap won't be drying. That doesn't make any sense to me...if CO dries your skin, and you are superfatting...

    lotion bar

Trying my first lotion bar and finding that some recipes call for 1 part beeswax, 2 parts butter, 1 part oil. Would you reduce the butters in this recipe or make it as is? 3 oz beeswax 3 oz cocoa butter 3 oz shea butter 3 oz jojoba oil

    The Soapy Towel

I hand wash them in the sink and let them air dry. I figure there is enough soap on the towel--it doesn't need any more.

Pink Clay and Coconut Milk - Picture Added

I just ordered some pink clay to use as a coloring agent. Planning on using 1 tsp. ppo. I am also interested in knowing if it will be drying.

I'm ready to give it up on color

Yea, me too. The last time I used LabColors Orange Sherbet, there was no color whatsoever. Then I used the same amount of Citrus Green and I have dark green soap with green bubbles and green goo in the bottom of my soap dish. I get that it comes down to experience and knowing how each color...

I'm ready to give it up on color

So frustrated with colors that I have not used any in the last two batches, but I have to admit I'm getting a little tired of off white soaps. :(

    Shampoo bar question

I understand that hazelnut oil has a slight astringent value so it is often used on acne prone or oily skin types.

    Shampoo bar question

Great thread! I have been using my soaps as shampoo and I find that they do leave a residue on my hair. I think that is because I SF at 8-10%. So I am going to make a shampoo bar with 3% SF and see how I like it. I have tried no conditioner, but I'm not able to get a comb through my hair...

How do I slow down trace?

Thank you. I was blending waaaay too long. Next batch I am going to pour when it is just starting to thicken.

How do I slow down trace?

I like small, individual molds. But I have such a hard time with my recipes because they trace so fast. By the time I get what I consider a light trace, the mixture thickens so quickly I can't pour it into small molds. I get a few molds poured and then I have to dump the remaining batch into a...

    I'm so tired of hearing....

Whoa, sorry everyone. I did not mean to imply that Ivory was dangerous in any way. I was mostly interested in the ingredients. I should have just posted them instead of the whole commentary. I will stick to my own opinions from now on instead of posting someone elses. Here is the link...

    I'm so tired of hearing....

Here is what I found--I'm not making any guarantees as to accuracy: I found the list of ingredients for Ivory soap on a handmade soap website. Here's what they have to say: Sodium tallowate, sodium cocoate or sodium palm kernelate, water, sodium chloride, sodium silicate, magnesium...
