Is it worth making my own lotion?

I am NOT talking about financial part, but how well they moisturize. I've tried whipped body butter, which I like, but I am thinking that maybe my body needs water too, not just oil. So, if I put butter on my body after shower, when I am not completely dried yet... Is this the same as when...

I think my soap is drying to my legs

So, I have tried many recipes to see what suits me well. Bastille (10% of castor or coconut) and many other mixtures. All my recipes have nice soap calc number, cleansing 14 or less, high conditioning. I've tried superfatting from 7-20 % (although the ones 15-20% are still curing). I do notice...

Silk fibres are dissolving so slowly!!

Anyone else has the same problem? For some reason I can't cut it in smaller pieces (crappy scissors? they cut everything else fine). I do separate is as much as possible, but it's still dissolving so slooooowly. Is that just the way it is or is there some technique?

    Whipped Cream soap

Anyone tried making it? http://www.snowdriftfarm.com/form_whippedsoaps.html It looks SOOO interesting. It seems to be a mixture between liquid and solid soap, so creamy looking. If I had all the ingredients, I would try it in no time.

The funniest thing that happened when soaping?

I will tell you mine if you tell me yours. SO here it is. I have some liquid soap colorants and while I was preparing to start making soap, I realized that there is a security cap under the screw on lid on the bottle. So, if I removed both of them, the hole was going to be too big and I...

Argh, I hate my rings when washing hands with soap!!!!

Everytime I wash my hands, some soap get stuck under my rings. Maybe my soap isn't hard enough, but still, I hate it!! I noticed yesterday, that my skin is slightly flaky under my rings, I bet it's from leftover soap that is drying that area. Thanks for letting me vent.

    It's my time

Finally I took a photo of my soaps. 8) 3 on top are my beginning soaps. The left one on the top is milk and honey, scented with lavanda. The middle one bastille, the right one milk honey, cinammon and oats (coarsely ground, but I love the rough peeling). In the middle, the greenish...

    The highest supperfatting number?

How high did you go? What were the results? Was the bar more moisturizing or was it just to oily? Maybe even spoiled quicker than other bars? The highest I went was 20% for salt bar. It's still curing so I don't know the results yet.

Adding FO or EO in oils not at trace?

So, in CP some of you believe that you can't choose an oil to superfat with. That's better to just mix everything in beginning. I also believe this to be true and I read that you could add FO at beginning so one have less problems with seizing or tracing too quickly. Now, I don't remember where...

How many oils/butters do you use on average for soap?

I am somewhat limited on which and how many different oils I can use for soapmaking. So what I am wondering is, is it really so much better to use so many luxurious oils and fats in one bar? The oils I've used so far are: pumpkin seed, avocado, palm, coconut, olive and castor oil. I don't I...

Can I use sweetened chocolate for making soap?

So, I am thinking about making soap with some chocolate and all I can find here is already sweetened. I searched for a recipe and each one says unsweetened chocolate. I know I can use cacao, but I would like to add some chocolate too. I know that i have to be careful when sugar (or honey or...

Can I use my 30.5 % solution of NaOH?

SO, before I found solid NaOH I bought 30.5 % solution (NaOH only), but then I saw that I need at least 38%. So, is my only solution to add solid NaOH to the solution to get the right percentage or are there some recipes where I could use this solution alone? Maybe I can use it in recipes that...

Anyone made liquid soap from soap bar?

As much as I love soap bar, I love liquid soap more in kitchen. So, I was thinking, can I use soap bar, melt it, add some distilled water and have my own liquid soap? I know I can make one using KOH, but it seems like this is more complicated to do.

    Do bar soaps harbor bacteria?

My husband doesn't want to use bar soaps, because he says that liquid soaps are more hygienic, because hands don't get in touch with soap. I searched for a research confirming or denying this, but I found only one that said that it's unlikely that contaminated bar soaps would transfer bacteria...

alkaline pH of a soap, "bad" for skin?

Hello from a newbie. I made three batches of CP soap so far, all of them are still curing, but I can see the potential of the first one already (I washed my hands with it after 2 weeks of curing). :D When I am trying to argue why I like bar soaps, people say to me that our skin is acidic and...
