I've figured out why I don't care for Lush any more

A Lush store went into the mall out near my parents' house, so I finally got to go in and see what the fuss is about! And I had to turn right around and leave because the fragrances were giving me a migraine. It wasn't just all the heavily scented products -- it seemed like they were also...

Is it possible to lower the Ph of cold process soap

That's weird. It popped up when I clicked "new posts"!

Is it possible to lower the Ph of cold process soap

You can find the ingredients of Dove soap online. It is not actually soap, but synthetic detergent. HP OR CP, the pH issue is the same.

How to know if you've used too much sugar?

You got it. Just enough to make it kind of fluid. I have also just chucked the dry powder into the oils. The slurry is easier to mix in.

How to know if you've used too much sugar?

I use powdered buttermilk. I just mix it with a little bit of water and I make a slurry and then mix it into my oils. I never have an overheating problem.

    Is Woodi still around?

You can search for old friends by user name above. 🔎 Looks like Woodi was last seen in 2013.

Why did I get tiny little crystal looking flakes floating at the top of my lye water?

Looking on Amazon, you can get a set of fine stainless steel mesh strainers for less than getting a stainless tea strainer. And, they would not be so narrow at the opening as the tea strainer would be.

    Ack! Kerblewy!

Wait-a-minute wait-a-minute Maybe this is just new to me. So, you used then heat of the lye solution to brew the coffee? I brew the coffee, then dry out the spent grounds, then use the cooled coffee to make my lye solution. Not saying you were wrong, or that it caused your problems, just...

Why did I get tiny little crystal looking flakes floating at the top of my lye water?

I'm not sure what you mean, "sooner than I should have." Also, I'm still pretty sure the sugar had nothing to do with it. It's the lye in the solution reacting to the air. Try putting a cover on that solution and see if it makes a difference.

Why did I get tiny little crystal looking flakes floating at the top of my lye water?

I don't, no. After this many years of soaping, reading about other's experiences, watching videos, I feel like it's just a thing that happens to most everyone. And, even if the sugar caused it (it didn't), like @DeeAnna said-- "there's no harm caused if it ends up in the soap batter." I'm not...

Why did I get tiny little crystal looking flakes floating at the top of my lye water?

The important part of the link I shared was just the cause (exposure to air) and prevention. Try covering your container and see if that helps.

What type of a container do you use to mix your water (liquid) and lye?

But, you don't throw it away after. I use a plastic (#5) container with a lid that I think take-out soup came in. It is clear-ish. It has a lid, in case I want extra safety. I have reused it many times. And, most towns collect #5 for recycling. I am also a hobby soaper. I make 16-32 oz batches...

    Soap setting up too fast.

I use my Stick blender sort of like a mixing spoon. I blitz it for a couple heartbeats then I just use it to stir and blitz again and stir and so on. You want to watch for that moment when that little ribbon of oily swirl disappears and it all becomes one color. Does that make sense?

Sunflower oil as a main carrier in soap ?

Make a small batch! 16 oz is a good size. You will have enough to test & share and you won't feel like you wasted materials if it doesn't turn out. How pricey is lard for you? Also, make sure your sunflower oil is high oleic. It should say on the label. I agree with @KiwiMoose about the milk.

Forgot half my water to the lye mixture

As long as you had enough water to completely dissolve the NaOH, I think you should be fine.
