    Oil Ooze?

This is the soap and formula I made two days ago. The mold was removed after 24 hours and I cut it today, 24 hours after removing from mold. I have used this formula many times without having this happen. I don't know what I might have done wrong. I am thinking could I have had a false trace...

    Problem with Lye

Suddenly I am having a problem with dissolving my lye. When I first mix it everything goes well. The lye appears to be clear and completely dissolved. After having it set aside for cooling it developed a crystal-like film on the top of the solution. When I stir it up the film breaks up into what...

    Palm Oil Question

I have been using Bulk Apothecary for Palm Oil ever since I began Soaping four years ago. I have been very satisfied with this product. However, I always open the palm oil bucket and melt all 7lbs., stir well, and put it in separate small containers for individual batches. I have followed this...

    High Oliec Cannola Oil

I have read on this forum that Cannola oil can contribute to DOS. I assume that does not however hold true for high oleochemicals Cannola oil. Is this assumption correct? I saw a great price at GFS (restaurant food supplier) on high oleic Cannola oil and would like to substitute olive oil for...

    Storing Cured Soap

My habit is to cure my cut soap on open shelving for 12 weeks, then put them in sports card boxes for long term storage. They are usually stored no more than one year in the boxes. Currently I have plenty of shelf room on my curing rack and I wonder if it would benefit the soap to keep it out...

    Soapmaker's masks

Has anyone used soapmaker masks from a company called Tikvah? And if so do you recommend them. I am looking to buy a suitable mask but just do not know hat to buy. I do not want anything more than I really need but I do need something appropriate for the fumes when mixing lye.

    Stick blender and air bubbles

My old stick blender died and I bought a new one. It is a very cheap one. Suddenly I am getting a lot of air bubbles in the batter and it must be from the new stick blender. I use the SB very sparingly when I am mixing. Is there something I might be doing wrong that I am missing. I do keep it...

    Nature's Oil Fragrance Oil Question

I rarely buy anything but Bramble Berry fragrances because they give very goo descriptions of the product. But I could not resist Nature's Oil version of "Coco Chanel". I got it at Bulk Apothecary at a discount price and am just hoping it will be good to work with. The scent from the bottle is...

Slight show of oil on top of soap

I am starting to wrap my winter soap that I give to friends and family at Christmas. I have noticed that some of the batches have oozed a small amount Oil. This seems to just be on the top. All of the soap batches were cured on open racks for at least three months and then boxed (unwrapped) in...

Is there a good substitute oil for olive oil

It seems the cost of olive oil is getting higher and higher every time I purchase it. I use a lot of hard oils and anywhere between 30% to 40% olive oil in most of my formulas. I would like to know if using high oleic safflower oil would be a good substitute for the olive oil I am now using.

    Favorite Soaping Patterns

I have been soaping for about three years and have still not experimented with a lot of soap designs. I think this is because I have a few favorites that I really like so much that I stick with them. I love to do spoon swirls and pot swills and then third in line maybe a hanger swirl. I am...

    Sesame Oil

I have not seen anything about sesame oil for soapmaking and am curious if anyone on this forum uses it in their formulas. I just bought some pure sesame oil for a very good price and wonder about using it in mine.

    EDTA Question

This year I started to use EDTA in all of my soap to safeguard against DOS and to prevent soap scum build up. I usually use 5g EDTA per1000 g total batter Weight. I have city water that is not hard. We have no need for a water softener I have noticed that all of my soap formulas are...

    Issues with Silicone Molds

I have several Silcone loaf soap molds. I have three 10" Crafter Choice loaf molds and one tall skinny one from Bramble Berry. After several uses they seem to be more difficult to unmold. The silky smooth finish seems to have diminished. I don't know if this is the problem or not. I clean then...

Argon Oil in Cold Process Soap

I use Argon oil on my face and body to moisturizer. But never thought about using it in soap. Has anyone used it in their soap? My concern is would I be wasting my money using it in cold process if the saponification process destroys it?

92 degree Coconut Oil vs 76 degree

I always have used 76 Degree Coconut Oil for my soap. I know 92 degree CO is used by soap-makers in very warm weather climates. However, I am curious to know if there is any other advantage or disadvantage in using the 92 degree product other than it will not melt in storage in warmer climates...
