    Laundry Soap

I personally have hesitations regarding the outcome of the research in the blog post but what Steve says sums it up for me....as well as others. It is good to see an active and cordial discussion.

Upcoming New Year Castile Soap Project

I made a few batches of soap for the first time in 2014. But an ill dog and life distracted me. I jumped back in last weekend and used this recipe. Thank you! I took some pieces after cutting and washed my hands and the lather was very nice.

    Deanna, I have a question...

I tried washing with the soap from my first batch (that cracked). The soap was full of ash. I did experience a clear slimey-ness. These are only about 5 weeks old tho. I did not experience over-drying on the hands. I am chalking it up to the newness of the soap. * listen to me...talking...

    Shampoo Bar - Thanks Lindy!!

I am going to add my name to the list who love the shampoo bar. Thanks for sharing! It lathers up so well! I made it by trying out the Hot Process method for the first time. I gave some away to people I work with. 2 of the guys want more in the future. 2 of the woman have not used it yet.

    Deanna, I have a question...

Hiya! Mine are doing well. They have not twisted or cracked or anything. They are just standing around like perfect soldiers. I did not weigh them in the beginning but they look great...apart from the frosting of ash here and there. They do look a bit more beige and not as white. I used...

Any Thoughts Silicone vs. Plastic vs. Wood Rectangular Soap Molds?

Very nice mold. I had bought a wooden one originally before I realize how easy it would be to make. Just FYI...I noticed the one I bought had a few small holes drilled in the bottom to allow ease when releasing the mold....not as much suction. Not sure if it really serves the purpose but...

    Deanna, I have a question...

Hello! This thread was the main reason why I joined this group in the first place. I took notes prior to joining and I do have 2 questions. 1. AnnaMarie indicates that she wraps her soap up tightly in towels after pouring. Other posts had mentioned not to gel it. a. After...

    New Crafter needs some help

Back to your original post goal ---- I will say I admire your honesty and courtesy. I wish I had more experience with soaping to help guide you but I do not. Some people seem to have given some good soaping advice. And good luck on the weight loss! I know how that can make one...

    Deanna, I have a question...

By golly you are right! In my excitement to even get it to work AND to cut in time (before it cracks), I forgot all about the stick blender issue. I promise I shall try again in the near future. I am thinking I may have developed a highly confidential stirring technique that just may work...

    Deanna, I have a question...

It is with a little regret that I mention that I may no longer be eligible for a stir off (but my arm and shoulders thank me)...but I will cheer everyone else on. Attached (if I did it right) is the remake of recipe. It was nagging at me to try again this weekend. Difference: 1. Used...

    quick question: hydrogenated fats

I was a wonderin'... If I were to buy non hydrogenated lard, do you have to somehow compensate for that? Not too familiar with non hydrogenated but hydrogenated seems pretty fluffy.

    Deanna, I have a question...

AnnaMarie....thanks for bring the recipe up. As a new soap maker, I am enjoying this recipe. Too bad I did not listen to my nudge and cut sooner. But with having 1 other batch under my belt, it was a good learning experience. Even though many bars cracked, I am amazed at how white it...

    Deanna, I have a question...

That slow vortex comment and the rest of it gave me a chuckle! Good sense of humor is a positive...even when you have to keep stirring. I think I may have started out stirring toooo carefully (taking AnnaMarie's comment to an extreme). I'll let you know how the next batch goes. I would prefer...
