    It's Friday night and....

Ugh!! Last night's experiment failed!! Ash on top and zappy liquid beading along the edges. Guess it's time to research what went wrong!! Tomorrow & Monday I'm making some soaps & bath bombs with the girls. And a couple of their friends. I'll let my failure sit for a couple of days....

    lip balms? preservatives?

This was a total experiment for me. I found that keeping the mixture in the double boiler was the most important part. Then after trying a few things, I settled on a medicine syringe. (the kind you use to get your kids to take icky liquid meds) I'm sure there are other ways--but this is what...

http://www.pvsoap.com/recipe_beeswax_lipbalm.htm Ian--this recipe is very close to Burt's Bees. My family LOVES BB, so this is the recipe I used for my first try @ lip balms. Everyone loves it and wants to know when I'm making another batch. Maybe this will help you!

    Reality Checkup!

Wow, mandolyn!! All things I will be showing to my daughters (almost 16 & 14). We had considered selling at local craft fairs, but we decided to just stick to giving away our projects to family, friends, co-workers (mine & hubby's) and teachers/coaches (theirs). We're getting requests to...

    homemade "vicks"?

mandolyn--I will try to find some of those. I just used what I had on hand. I offered to use some beeswax to make it more "firm" like Vicks, but he liked the idea of it being used as a rub on sore muscles as well. Tabitha--another great idea! I'll pose that to hubby as well. I ended up...

    homemade "vicks"?

So I tried an experiment today, and checking in with you guys. Hubby gets congested like you wouldn't believe. Obviously, snoring is a huge issue as well. Today he asked me to pick up some Vicks. I offered to make some & he agreed to try it. I mixed some shea butter & avocado oil with eucalyptus...

    Wild game tallow??

I wanted to thank everyone for their help!! What a great group I have found to help me through this new hobby/obsession. Although my hubby & his cousin were succesful (two beautiful elk!), there was NO FAT on those critters!! We couldn't believe it! Maybe next year.

    Colourants and sensitive skin

Hmmm....Crystal Light. Never thought of that! My girls have been in heaven eating Pringles lately. My hubby cut some PVC pipe for me, but I haven't used it yet. He's beginning to think my looking at containers as molds is a sickness!! My girls are starting to see things my way...

I'm going to attempt shampoo bars!! And making them using CPHP. Experimentation all the way around tonight. Wish me luck!! I'm also thinking of a salt bar either tonight or after I drop the girls at school tomorrow.

    Wild game tallow??

Just for info in case you didn't know. Bear is a member of the swine family...would their fat be considered lard? Or tallow? Bear makes the BEST EVER ham!! And there ain't nuthin' wrong with being a redneck woman. Gretchen Wilson owns her redneckin'!!

    Wild game tallow??

Thanks, Deb! That sounds like a super easy way to go. Now if my hubby will just get an elk....

    Wild game tallow??

You're right. Wild game has a tendency to be "over-powering"!! Elk isn't quite as bad as deer. I hadn't thought about doing it outside. Good thought!! What's the difference between wet & dry rendering? I didn't realize there were 2 ways. When I rendered a 5-gallon bucket of pork fat, I added...
