We're making a super batch of a yellow CP soap. It's supposed to be gold, but since you can't add a shine to the soap, I think true gold will just look too much like BROWN. So I'm going with a true yellow, by using this:

Having said all that, I'd really like a lemon scent, but we refuse to use fragerances in our CP soap. EO only. I've read that lemon just doesn't hold. Our second best option is grapefruit, and we're looking at this EO:

My question is, does that grapefruit hold well in CP soaps? I've read that the orange 10x EO holds well, and that would be our third option for our yellow soap.

Any feedback? THANKS!

I think most citrus scents fade in CP. What about lemongrass? Its not super lemony but smells really good.

Try for a blend of citrus. I've used some lemon & lime and it's held, but like others said, putting in something like lemongrass or litsea would help. Also, Fizzy Lemonade is awesome. Very bright yellow color and it glows under UV light too.

Citrus eo s unless they are very strong like your example above tend to have trouble sticking on thier own in my experince . So if using grapefruit I would look for 10x grapefruit eo. Good luck hope it turns out well.

Hello! I have had wonderful results using New Directions Aromatics Lemon 5 Fold essential oil. Here is the link: http://www.newdirectionsaromatics.com/lemon-essential-oil-5-fold-p-285.html . By adding some Litsea EO ( http://www.newdirectionsaromatics.com/litsea-cubeba-essential-oil-p-291.html) to help 'hold' it you will have a great lemony fragrance. You can also blend everything with some Lemongrass (http://www.newdirectionsaromatics.com/lemongrass-essential-oil-p-286.html ). Don't be afraid to mix similar fragrances together - they all help to stick with each other!

This is what I've purchased (5x lemon and litsea). I'm wondering how much I should use of each... Maybe 0.75 onces / lb base oils of the lemon and 0.5 oz / lb of the litsea?

Hello ZandarKoad! I think you will love this combination. I have a few 8 month-old lemon soap made with this combo and they still smell zesty. For safety sake you do not want to go over a total of one ounce per pound of soaping oils/fats. I use 0.75 ounce of 5 X Lemon and add .25 ounce for the Litsea for a total of one ounce. You can also do .80 for the Lemon and .20 for the Litsea. The Litsea acts as an anchor to help hold the Lemon and any other citrus.

Grapefruit EO is more likely to fade than lemon, IME.

I have also used the 5x lemon from NDA and it sticks very well. Combine it with lemongrass and a hint of patch and you'll have a winner.
