I found this recipe online and it looks very interesting. But look at the water amount! The article doesn't really explain why so much water and if the soap ever firms up or not? I emailed the author, but no response.

http://www.modernsoapmaking.com/the-best-wet-shaving-soap-recipe/

325g Soy Wax (11.46 oz)
195g Coconut Oil (6.97 oz)
65g Cocoa Butter (2.3 oz)
65g Castor Oil (2.3 oz)
796g Water (28 oz)
44g Sodium Hydroxide (1.55 oz)
73g Potassium Hydroxide (2.61 oz)

Any insight as to why?

I would guess thats a typo, run the recipe through a lyecalc and set the water to whatever you want.

If you look at the pictures of her soap after saponification, it looks more like pureed potato soup rather than mashed potatoes. She also says this at the end of the tutorial, "...I wasn’t aiming for true vaseline stage, because I wanted my soap to still be fluid...." and "...Because I used more than full water..."

So I'm guessing that 28 oz of water is really what she used. It's more water than I would use too, so I can see why you question it. It would have been nice to hear why she chose an unusually large amount of water for this recipe.
