where to find lye?

Hi, newbie here!

Okay, so I'm getting ready to make my first batch of soap (woo-hoo!) and went out looking for lye today. I called Home Depot first and the lady said they carry it, but when I went there, they do NOT carry it. I didn't realize this stuff is so hard to find! Does anyone know of any large chain stores that carry it? If I need to order it online, who has the best prices?

Phone some chemical suppliers. Sometimes they sell hobby amounts through hobby stores or other small companies. Unless you want some in bulk then I'm sure they would sell it to you.

For small amounts I buy it in 1 lb containers at the local ACE Hardware

Edited to add: The link to the lye @ ace hardware shows "lye based formula". The lye that I buy, is 100% lye. same company, almost identical label. you may have to go to the actual store to get the 100%
