I am going to do a huge final push development wise for SoapmakingFriend.com.

I want this to pretty much add any feature you want or fix any issue you have.

Things like;
  1. What features is Soapmaking Friend missing?
  2. Are there any business features missing? Anything with the Batch or Supply tracking?
  3. Are you able to get all the financial information you need regarding your batches?
  4. Are there any graphs missing?
  5. Are there any calculators missing?
I want everyone to use SoapmakingFriend.com. So let me know what is wrong and what would prevent you from switching from say Soapmaker 3.

Please be detailed.

Hey...on this subject, I used SMF for the 1st time last week specifically for the split lye feature. I’ll likely never use anything else. It’s great. If I had my dream feature, it would be for SMF to create a single text box including the ingredients, in order, by INSI name from my recipe, so I could do a single, quick cut-and-paste from the recipe to my label template. I would never even LOOK at another calculator if that were available, plus I would gladly pay for using it.

I actually believe the common names are preferred, so maybe provide a toggle between the two.

I agree with Daryl on the list of ingredients, but would add it should include both the common name (US requirement) and INCI names. However, perhaps if it is to be internationally used, other things should be included in the list of ingredients, so I am unsure how extensive or difficult that might be for the developers.

Also could the ingredients list (if an added feature) include the additives? Some things like certain colorants are required to be included on the ingredients list for cosmetic and drug soaps (examples on this link).

How does one enter NaOH and KOH into the supplies? It is part of the financial information. I have not done enough in this part of the calculator to notice if other things are missing. But I only see Base Oils and Additives as categories for entering supplies.

Perhaps there needs to be more categories, such as Basic Supplies (lye, water, etc.) I am not sure how the cost of molds would or even could be factored in, but in the long run, I suspect they should. But again, not sure how.

I will continue to look and see if I come up with anything else.

I need to look closer...was planning to develop my own inventory, pricing and labeling program. Didn’t realize SMF did that. This could save me a ton of development and programming time. How does SMF calculate the cost per ingredient since I may have the same raw materials, purchased from different sources at different volumes and prices?

I’ll invest some time into looking at what all SMF does. I thought it was just a calculator...not a full-blown soap making management tool. Will look closer this week while I’m traveling.

I’m sure Soapmaker 3 is a fine product, but everything is moving to the cloud. I refuse to purchase actual software that I have to load, upgrade and maintain unless I write it myself.

I love SMF. Its amazing. Very user friendly. I would suggest adding moreadditives. For example, almond flour, heavy cream, yogurt, sour cream. I have used some of these and I have seen others use many more additives then what is listed. Other than that....its perfect. ☺

The Batch feature is still left, but I am sure you are working on that, too. I have added to the thread on that feature, as well.

As are the additional supplies (distilled water, lye are supplies not entered in as yet.)

You can enter them under 'custom additives'. I just added EDTA 50% solution yesterday. Does it appear for everyone else now?

I am of no help here. I have no idea what SoapmakingFriend.com is or that it even existed. I'm very new to this forum (less than a week) and I'm only responding because I received a messages asking me to do so. So sorry & if anyone wants to clue me in, I'd be happy for the info.

Hi there, I've never used SMF & I don't make soap much these days. It looks good, but apart from seeing what other people might be experimenting with, i probably wouldn't use it, dunno maybe?

So you're a Software Developer that makes soap? LOL. Me too.
