I've been trying to research this topic but am still up in the air about it. And trying to figure out what would be the best preservative to use.

  1. #1 ~ In a liquid soap that is made from scratch. Which involves using KOH and making a paste and diluting with water.

#2 ~ In a product that does not contain much in terms of oils, but does contain water.
(I want to make my hubby and little boy some aftershave using aloe vera gel, but it also contains water and a little oil more or less.)

Faithy - I would recommend Optiphen. IMHO it's the best and least harmful preservative on the market right now. It's very versatile in many oil and water applications.
