I've been an olive oil virgin I guess. I only knew there was virgin olive oil. Then I learned there's just regular olive oil. Now I'm learning there is pomace olive oil!

I understand pomace is cheaper, but from those who have used it in soapmaking what's really the difference?

extra virgin olive oil is the first cold pressing of the olives
virgin olive oil is the second cold(?) pressing
olive oil is other mechanical pressings (no solvents)
and pomace is SOLVENT extracted.

Many use Pomace in their soapmaking. I use regular OO from Costco and have had excellent results so my theory is, if it ain't broke don't fix it. However, I did try pomace once and found it traced a bit quicker. Extra and Virgin Olive is really green in most cases. Plus it's a bit more expensive in a lot of cases.

They all work, it's just a personal preference.

I used pomace once and it stank to high heaven. Pomace oil is solvent extracted, usually using hexane. I know tons of people use it but my one experience turned me off.
