What is the best wood for making a soap mold? That can resist water and oil.

Well, for wood molds you will have to line them, so it doesn't really matter if it can resist water or oil, but IMHO I think soft pine would be the best. It's inexpensive and once dried, it doesn't warp much.

Pine, poplar, fir, and any other softwood species are easy to work with and plenty good enough for soap molds. Baltic birch plywood is nice if you have it. The wood doesn't need to be fancy or special -- or even wood for that matter. Many people use cardboard boxes or reuse food containers. I read a neat article where a gal made a lovely mold out of an old yard sign made of that corrugated plastic -- think it's called "corplast".

I do have a tip if you might want to put the molds in the oven (CPOP method) -- be sure to screw or nail your molds instead of or in addition to gluing. Wood glue will not stand up to a 170 deg F oven.
