After burning, the wax is turning a different color and giving the candle an ugly layered look. Is this from the type of wax? Or the heat? Any tips on how to not make this happen?

I'm thinking by the photo that you are using a soy wax? The times that I have used a 100% soy wax I have seen changes in the melt pool after it re-solidifies. It's one of the natures of soy wax, and a reason I prefer to blend waxes.

Yes soy wax. Sorry i should have been more specific. Naturewax c3.
I'd prefer to use more natural wax and not add paraffin if possible.
