I have an old water cooler in my garage, it started to drip at some point so I am not using it for anything.
Is it a good ides to use it to store my lye?
I have ordered few new lye containers, I want to be sure that I am storing them right. My other lye bottles got clumps, I don't feel I like to use them in my soap anymore.
Thank you in advance.

What is it made of? And I mean all parts that would come in contact with the lye?

But even if all the parts are lye safe, I'd not use it for lye. If a guest comes into your house and sees it, disaster could be the result. What if you yourself become confused at some point and in some sort of confused stupor accidentally drink it?

Is this the kind of water cooler that has a large (5 gallon?) transparent plastic bottle that's upended onto a stand? Are you planning to use just the bottle or what do you have in mind? If the bottle is what I'm familiar with, I would absolutely not use it for NaOH storage. And I agree with everything Earlene said.

It's similar to this one

I thought of storing the lye bottles inside it.

It's not going to be touching the lye, I meant the lye bottles not the solution.
Edit to mention that my soap area is totally separated from the guest room.

Why not a 5 gallon bucket with a tight fitting lid? It will be cheaper, air tight to minimize humidity, and also available at Lowes. https://www.lowes.com/search?searchTerm=bucket

I have two buckets essentially the same as the ones sold at Lowes. I bought them from our local bakery for about $2 apiece; they used to have frosting in them.

I did buy these lids for my dry buckets. They screw on, rather than snap on, so they're easier to use -- https://www.lowes.com/pd/Encore-Plastics-12-in-White-Plastic-Bucket-Lid/50094688

Thank you DeeAnna.
I have bought a couple of these last trip to Lowes, totally forgot about storing lye bottles in them.
I'll need to go on another trip to Lowes, but for now until I go on a trip is there any problem using the cooler? It's becoming very hot here, today is almost 108 F, I want to save them from the extreme heat.
