As I started planning on my next batch of soap I remembered I must have some sheep tallow in my freezer. I really had a bottle of rendered sheep tallow from a sheep breeder friend. The label bears the date 1 December 2015. I slowly thawed it to get some out of the bottle: it looks whitish and has a smell of sheep tallow. I wander if there is any chance it can be safely used for soap.

Personally, I'd give it a shot in a small batch, especially if my nose doesn't smell anything the slightest bit off. Push come to shove, if it smells off as you melt the oil down (I suggest you melt the tallow separate from other oils to reduce the risk of waste), you will then know what to do (many things tend to smell different depending on the their temperatures).
