Have tried a search but no cigar...

I feel like activated charcoal is speeding my trace. Is this a thing? Or do is it more that I'm not leaving it to soak in carrier oils enough before adding? Or something entirely different? I'd like to try a clam swirl with it and am worried its gonna turn to goop.

You are not imagining things. It does thicken your batter. Not usually as much as TD will thicken my batter, but still pretty noticeable. I always mix in the AC second-to-last, and the TD last. It does delay the thickening for a short time when I pre-disperse in a bit of oil for a bit before adding to my batter. But that's only temporary and it does thicken fast after that.
