I don't know if it is already considered or not

Water is part (reactant) of the saponification, for triglycerides is needed in the amount of around 45 g every 100g of NaOH.
Obviously the most important factor is safety, and IMO fixing water to be not less than the NaOH in weight is very important.

About the additives just as information, it's very hard to consider all the factors that are involved when mixing many ingredients

Just for example, Citric acid is very soluble but if added to something that contains Calcium (i.e. milk) will probably precipitate as calcium citrate that is no more high-soluble
So for exemple when adding CA or EDTA (or other things supposed to work as preservant or ion sequestrant) together with milk, aloe or other minerals-rich products , it's possible that something didn't goes exactly as expected

So I'm looking at today's batches.

    • When I added 4.5 oz of soap scraps (using the adjust mold capacity option) the amount of oils and lye I needed went up, instead of down (i.e. the mold would hold less oils because of the 4.5 oz of soap scraps). It went from 32 oz of oils to 34 oz of oils. I thought that was strange.
    • Also, how does everyone feel about rounding the grams? Is anyone using a scale that counts to the nearest 100th of a gram, or even the nearest 10th of a gram? I feel that that information isn't really useful and it just adds to possible number confusion.
    • Still would love multiple fragrance and fragrance names
    • Still would love to have the date print at the top with the recipe name
    I like the graphs

okay WOW, I love the calc. values are about the same for my normal recipes nothing to big too worry about. I absolutely love the custom additives, however can something be added to say what effect the additives will have? Maybe that's too much lol but if I had to choose that would have been my deciding factor. Visual is a must for me so I like the coloured bars I get now with my other soap calculator that lets me know my safe zones by going red for bad and green for acceptable so i dont have to pay attention to too much of the data sciency stuff. Soaping is my fun away from work and 'm a chemist lol.

    Whats broke - nothing
    What I don't like - the layout
What you could add - information on the additives effect on/in the soap and/or recipe

My name is too long to be valid and without hyphen it is still 11 characters long.

I agree, either automated effect notes or even adding our own because sometimes I forget why I have a certain ingredient in there because I am old. Lol

I love this! What a great calculator!
Would adding canola oil be an option? I've run into recipes using it, and have incorporated it into some of mine.

I am not able to save as it keeps asking me check my inbox for an email to finish confirming my registration. There hasn't been an email so is this something we aren't supposed to do at this point?

It's not saving the Lye concentration and keeps defaulting back to 33.33%

It would be great to search the recipe database to limit oils selected to omit certain oils

Or to show only recipes that use only certain oils. Such as saying "I have these oils on hand. What can I make from them?"
Edit from speach to text cant to intended can

My calculation of the mold size was 120 oz and then I entered dimensions instead (super cool feature, btw) and it says it is only 86 oz.

Manually I am calculating volume and then converting cubic inches to ounces, so I'm curious as to the method the calculator is using to determine volume.

That's what I meant to say. Also, "omit palm or coconut."

Yes a search by oils option. With the selector for you to select your oils. Then you could have a selection of how to search. Initail default option 'Any' where it has to have at least one of the oils listed and can have an oil not listed. 'All' where it has to have at all of the oils listed and can have an oil not listed. 'Exclude' where it cannot have any of the oils listed. 'Only' where it has to have at least one of the oils listed and can not have an oil not listed. 'Exactly' where it has to have at least all oils listed and can not have an oil not listed.
If 'Any' or 'All' is selected you can have a default unchecked checkbox for 'Exclude other' where, when checked, a separate list of oils to exclude can be made.

was on hiatus but back to using this awesome calculator.
i love the way it is going so far. i haven't had as much time to engage in testing, but i am outright using this as my only calc now. it's been extremely reliable for me and has suited my purposes well.
i saw some notes on liquids and discounting. i've been working on some beer soaps lately so i will try to focus some testing on that.

what do i like so far? everything, to be honest.
what is broke? not sure yet, will try to break some things.
what do we need to add? in my opinion, i would love for the login to redirect to the calculator by default instead of my profile page. my profile is boring, but making soap is fun and exciting. ;)

I still think the eczema recipe in the list of sample recipes should be either removed or renamed. Soap cannot cure eczema.

So I just printed out a recipe of mine that I'd saved and the PRINTED page has a section for "Additional Ingredients" just above the "Notes" but I can't seem to get to that section in the online SMF?

I have just started playing this afternoon and have found the program very helpful. I especially love the little info icons with the value/purpose of each ingredient.
It just worries me that I can only really get my recipies to have a minimum 'lasting' value without reducing things like conditioning or making the cleansing too high. Swings and roundabouts I guess. I"ll learn.
