hey guys - I really like using the SMF, I have soapmaker 3 and I also use SoapCalc, my only issue is that SMF doesn't have the INCI names. as a newbie UK wannabe soapmaker that has to bow down to EU regulations if I ever want to get my recipes safety assessed by a cosmetic chemist to be able to legally sell or even give away my soaps then i have to have INCI names on my labels. At the moment I flit back and forth to the others just to get the INCI's I need. Admittedly once my recipe has been assessed the base oils can't be changed and the INCI would be the same for all my labels, only the variations would change ie. colours, fragrances additives etc. until I hand over another arm and a leg for a second base recipe and variations! I like that the soap qualities can easily be seen at a glance on SMF so that I can judge where tweaks need to be made. Keep up the good work! I would like to see more milks added to the list and also Kefir.

I hadn't seen the calculator, haven't had a chance to make soap in about a year. I'm in Austin. Nice to see that you are in San Marcos. Perhaps out paths might cross someday. I hope so.

Advertise more. I didn't know it existed until 2 or 3 weeks ago.

I have not encountered any problems. The only suggestion I have would be ending some of the old threads.

Longevity, as opposed to actual hardness, is how long your bar of soap could last. It's your Palmitic + Stearic in the recipe.

Both these things have bothered me too Dibbles.

I don’t print out my recipes, but having to scroll to the second page to see the recipe niggles. I am being s bit picky of course, but since my feedback is required, I am giving it.

I would like to see hard oils first, since I melt them to together before preparing my soft oils.

I would also like options for water replacements to save me writing it in the notes. Aloe being one that springs to mind.

I have workarounds for some of these, as I do with soap calc, so it’s not the end of the world.

Also, as mentioned in the last round, I want the default setting to be private, and I can opt to make it public when required, not the other way around.

Love it though, and appreciate the work that has gone into creating it.

Well, SMF started about the same time I did, so I've used it almost exclusively. I like it, have none of the issues stated above, but have noticed that a few times it's not really save my current recipe. This is a 'sometimes not always' thing, so very hard to troubleshoot. Other than that, I print my recipe, it prints on one page, gives me everything I want including the ability to sub aloe for water. I truly have no complaints!

Soapmaking Friend is now the only calculator I use and I really like the way it works. I have not had any trouble with it.

    Wow I love it!
I love the graph, the masterbatch feature with the water clearly stated, and how the numbers automatically change when I change my water lye ratio. And I like the longevity number.

    Other thoughts:
While I was adjusting the oil percentage numbers, I felt that the up and down arrow are too small. They work great, but seems too small to me.
Maybe add some info bubble about the fatty acids profile, what myristic etc mean. Same thing with the properties quality. INS and Iodine might need some explanation, but the others are easy enough to understand.

I've noticed, like some others, that using something other than water as a base isn't possible anywhere other than the notes. Additionally, on my saved recipes list the measurements in grams rather than ounces, if I've saved it as such, so that was annoying. I've since started using grams though since it was more accurate. Will mention more if I notice anything else.

I love SMF! It is so much quicker than using soapcalc.com for me. And I love that it will do all the math for me when I use my dyi test molds (tho I enjoy the math but sometimes I need to save time). As a hobbyist I haven’t needed the master batch feature but do plan on making multiple batches this week so it looks like a good thing.
I do have a question about the graph and “longevity” in particular. Does this refer to length of time it lasts in the shower if left to dry properly? I thought that was what “hardness” tells us.
A big thank you to the genius who created SMF :)

It looks pretty good. I haven’t actually used it but I played around with it. Seems to run smoothly for me. Used my iPhone and it was pretty easy to input.
