Today I made some melt and pour soap. I could not get it out of the mold. I had to cut it out. The kit said to let it sit for 40 min and then take it out. I let it sit for 1 hour and 30 min, and it wouldnt come out. I had to cut it out with a knife.

Does putting it in the freezer really help to get it out of the mold?

Are silicone molds better? And where do I buy them?

Also, where do you buy all of your mold and soap bases?

Well, I am totally new to this, and only bought some MP stuff at first and used it for soaps for myself. I sprayed the mold with Pam. Was it the right thing to do? I don't really know, but i figured since it was for me only, I didn't mind. They did come right out of the molds though :) I got some great deals on silicone loaf pans, muffin pans, etc. on Amazon. Just your basic shapes though. They do have some good deals if you dig through for what you like.

Those are some that were very inexpensive and have worked well for me.

As far as where to get the bases, there is a thread in the forum that tells a lot of the favorite places and types. Maybe check this thread to get started finding a place?

Hope that helps some.

Yes, I place all of my M&P soap in the freezer. When it goes in the freezer, the soap will shrink a tad & when you bring it out of the freezer the mold will expand a tad so it will slip out. At best you may need to slip a butter knife down in 1 corner just to break the vaccum seal.

Anything w/ a little flex will make a fine mold. The more flex the easier it will pop out.

You can get molds & bases at most soap supply shops online. Here are a few w/ large selections:

Jello-jiggler molds from your grocery store, chocolate molds & silicone cupcake molds area aslo popular choices. You can use tupperware, childrens sand castle molds, shaped ice cube trays from the dollar store & lots of other things. Soon, if you are not careful, everything will become a soap mold  .

I line my molds woth just a little grease of some sort and the melt and pour comes out fine. My son also likes to freeze his too. :)

I've been reading not to use grease on when making melt and pour soaps.

I did buy 2 new oval silicone molds from WholeSaleSuppliesPlus.com along with soap base and oils.

Do they silicone molds work good?

I greased molds a couple of times & it left pock marks in the surface of the soap where oil beaded up.

Soap is easiest to get out of silicone. The more flex , the easier. Silicone also holds up longer.
