Did you know mandarin oranges are boiled and then bathed in a lye solution to dissolve the veins and pith before being canned? Lye is used for so many things besides soap and pretzels, that I never knew about!

Me, too on the olives! We go through several jars per month of Costco's jumbo olives that are stuffed with jalapeno and garlic. I guess it is the positive part about social distancing and masks, lol.

I forgot, some folks use a weak lye solution to create that nice crust on their bagels, too.
