Quick Lye question

I bought some lye and realised that it says 99% lye. It doesn't say anything else about it.

Would this still be ok to use?

Could you contact the company and ask what the other 1% is? I've done that when I wanted to use unusual things, and they were very polite.

I didn't think of that. maybe I'll give that a go.

Has anyone else used product like that before?

I wonder if it is some kind of silica, anti caking agent, since lye is so prone to draw moisture...dunno. :?

I called the manufacturer and asked them and they looked up their specification sheet and it said that it's actually min 99% so it could actually 99.99%.

It also states on the container that caustic soda is used in soap making so I guess that's a bit of comfort.
