I have just made a soap (from a recipe) that is one part lard, two parts sunflower, two parts coconut. It poured like a dream and unmolded beautifully. Will this be a good soap? All the soaps I have made thus far have had olive oil. How will this one compare? What are the benefits / drawbacks to the different oils?

If you do a google search for properties of oils in soap making you will find lots of sites that describe the different properties various oils bring to soap. I have printed some of them out so I can reference them easily.

I ran your recipe through soapcalc and it is pretty high on cleansing with that much coconut oil. If you bump up the lard to 40% and cut down on the coconut oil, add in some olive oil you will have a less dying soap. I have attached your calculation and another option for you to see. Also I found this very helpful when creating soap recipes with properties I like.
