What's happening is some, *ahem*, yahoo... is making a "new" user name, spamming the private messages, and knowing he'll be deleted makes yet another new user name.

Unfortunately what will have to happen is new users will have to be moderated for the next few weeks (along the lines of having to send a moderator some kind of intro before approval) or we just grit our teeth and hit the "delete" button for a while until this, *ahem*, troll moves along.

It'd be nice if those people would get a life!

Each time we delete the member, we also ban the email they are posting from, but then all they do is get a new email address.

I think we are all used to dealing w/ spam. We get it on our phones, in our snail mail boxes, at our emaila adresses & yes.... on our forums.

Please keep letting us know the new names being used to spam & we will keep banning them untill they grow bored & move on.

l know this may not be an appropriate solution, but thought l would offer/suggest it just in case :) (l design websites as a part time job when l am not soaping! )
The forum software that runs the board has been updated to a new version, (phpbb3) and it is much better at handling spammers/bogus registrations. It's not perfect of course, but if you'd like some help upgrading then l am more than happy to volunteer my time. The best thing is that when you install the new board it does it by making a complete copy of the old one, instead of replacing it, so you don't lose any of the old board, making it a nice low-risk upgrade :)
The only issues l've found is that sometimes users have to reset their passwords when logging in for the first time on the new board.
