This is probably a dumb question, but I'm not going to let that stop me.

Do you mix up your 50/50 lye/liquid solution in one container and then
transfer it to your HDPE safe container once it has cooled down?

Or do you mix it up right in the HDPE safe container?

Paul, I guess your the man. Thanks!!!

Thanks Dragon!!! By the way I get such a kick out of
your posts. I'm sure my kids just shake their heads
when they hear me giggling at the computer again.

I don't have a sense of humor. I just have to enjoy
everyone else's.

Ma'am, yes ma'am; Paul standing at attention, Ma'am!

Yes Laurie, that is what I do. I take a heavy Tupperware pitcher, place on my scale and zero out. I then add XXX ounces of, in my case, aloe vera juice to the pitcher. I then add a bit of silk threads and let saturate. I then add the exact same amount of sodium hydroxide and stir to dissolve the silk then let cool. I then transfer into my big detergent or OJ bottle and cap tightly. :D

Well I am here as some comic relief, life is too serious! You only go around once, why not make fun of someone while you are here?

HHAHHAHAHHAHAAA Hey Paul, I was enlisted, so you can't call me maam! :D

Thanks Guys!!!! This one took team work.

I definitely have a couple of those old heavy Tupperware pitchers.
(May be giving my age away. I think they make them light and pretty now.)

Have a gggggrrrrrreat day!

haha glad you found help and a quick laugh (ive found many of both from dragon and paul as well ;) )

I've never premixed. Isn't there a risk of some evaporation giving you too much lye in the final recipe?

No, not if you use a HDPE bottle like the one I use. It is an Detergent bottle, a little over 1 gallon with a push spigot on it. As long as the caps are snug, no moisture can escape, or enter, it is fine. Remember liquid Plumber, liquid Drano, are mostly just sodium hydroxide that is a heavy % solution. Capped right, tightly, it is a non issue. Been doing it this way for over a year with many swaps here and bars sold at my online store and in craft fairs, no lye heavy batches. :D

ETA; I'll post a picture tomorrow of my lye solution container.
