Does anyone pre-make their CP Soap base oils? I have thought about having all my oils mixed together so that when I want to make soap I could just measure out how many pounds I need and not worry about measuring each individual oil.

I was not sure if the oils would separate over time being mixed together. I primarily use; Refined Olive, Sweet Almond, Coconut, Shea, Lard and Castor oils.

Thanks for any feedback!

Depending on the ratios, I would expect that such a mixture would remain liquid. If it does at all ranges of your storage temps then I don't think it's a bad idea at all. If you start getting "chunks" at normal storage temps though, the same advice as is given for Palm Oil would apply - melt all of it, stir, then portion it out. In the back of my mind I've wondered if an aquarium heater could not maintain the oils as liquid.

I've thought about this too, but I've not settled on a recipe I use all the time yet. It certainly seems like a great idea.

Yes, it's called masterbatching (oils, you can also do it with lye). A friend of mine uses a paint mixer attachment on a drill, stirs up the slush, and scoops out what she needs. She's been doing it that way for a long time and says it is an amazing time saver.

IMO heating and reheating the oils over and over, even at low temps, will cause them to go rancid more quickly than if they are stored cool.

As I have an abundance of 1 gal. food safe covered buckets, I line some up, and portion 2 or 3 lb. recipes in them. Close 'em up and slap a label on it so I know what's in it. Then I'm ready to go.

I have a slight variation on this theme, I mix up a masterbatch, and then ladle out enough for a single batch into a large zip lock freezer bag. I label the outside with the amount of lye and water needed, then I store them in the fridge. It's wonderful to be able to pull one out, and make soap, only having to weigh out the lye and water. Gee, I haven't done this in a while, and this post is reminding me of how much I loved being able to do that.....I need to mix up a batch again, soon!
