Does anyone have info on what sort of adjustments need to be made to account for the water when dissolving some solid soap to test the pH using a pH meter?

You make a 1% solution to measure pH.
Glad I asked. I would have done like 50% or more.
How do you adjust to account for the pH of the water bringing it down? Or is is not significant enough to matter?

You don't adjust for the water's pH. You must use distilled/deionized/reverse osmosis water to do this properly however -- tap water, filtered, or bottled drinking water is not suitable.
