    Hi all,

I was asked to make a soap with no coconut oil due to an allergy. I replaced it with palm kernel oil, which i've read is the best replacement. All other components of my recipe remained the same. I found it took a lot longer to come to even a light trace compared to my usual recipe. I can't find much on this online. Does anyone else regularly use palm kernel oil in their recipe? Is this normal? Asking out of curiosity more than anything else. Thanks!

I've used it quite a bit over the years and never noticed it slowing things down. I generally use it in a mix now when I do use it CO/PKO.

Thanks @shunt2011 I'm thinking now that it may be a temperature thing. I used to soap in the kitchen last winter and this year I have a workspace set up in my basement where its much cooler. I haven't made soap in about 6 weeks so this PKO batch was the first one I made in those temps. I guess i'll just have to make more soap with my regular recipe to test it out. What a terrible problem to have ;)

I use 50/50 PKO/CO in all soaps and a few with just PKO and no, it does not slow trace.

It all will depend on how much you are using and the other ingredients I have found
