So, we've had this book in my family for ages. I don't think we've owned it for a hundred years, though-- I suspect my mother picked it up at an estate sale. I'll have to ask her sometime. Anyway, it has all kinds of instructions for to do what would have been everyday tasks, except it was published in 1914. It's huge! The instructions are from a time when you couldn't just run to the store to pick something up. We say it's the book we have to grab when the zombie apocalypse hits, so we'll know how to survive. :)

The soapy point-- this week I added the instructions for calculating lye and a sapo chart to it and discovered (no real surprise, I guess) instructions for making soap.

Anyway, I thought you guys might like to see it.

I don't think we could know the old ways too much. It's foolish to do so especially when certain types of soaps are not easily replicated by modern techniques.
