Hello , I am a new soap maker . I usually use essential oils and natural colorants to soap . I am disappointed how quickly they fade however. Can any one recommend any fragrance oils they feel are very safe to use ? Fragrances that do not have any carcinogens listed in their ingredients ? I know , this is probably asking to find a unicorn but thought I would ask experienced veteran soap makers before I try going on an endless elusive hunt . :)

Thank you in advance for any leads or advice :)
P.S
I have found this supplier that sound promising . Anyone have any experience using thier products ?

Most fragrance oils don't come with a list of ingredients, at least that I have seen. Your best bet is to check the IFRA for any fragrance --- it lists safe percentages for that particular fragrance.

Also, don't get caught up in the "100% natural." Just because it's 100 natural doesn't mean it's 100% safe.

I would look to FOs that say they contain ingredients listed on the CA Prop 65 list. If they do, check the listed chemical for why it is on that list. You may have to read the MSDS or SDS (Safety Data Sheet) for each FO to find that out, but if they sell in California, it is required information. See the following links:

Crafter (example of an FO that does not)

As an anxiety reducer, remember that there's a difference between risk and hazard, that while for example, beta myrcene at very high doses caused cancer in rats, there's no evidence of it causing cancer in humans. (And they've looked).

It occurs naturally in foods at higher rates than you'll likely be exposed to in cosmetics. (myrcene in hops, carrots, lemongrass, citrus, thyme..). Check out the level of methyl eugenol in basil, and in roses.

So while it's good and wise to be cautious, one shouldn't have to feel fearful of fragrance as such, nor synthetics as a class.

:) Thank you , I do need to get educated on it . I'm a pastry chef by trade and by all studies on sugar I should be considered a drug dealer LOL but all in moderation ! I'll learn more about the terminology and the way they are tested. I do like fragrance very much .
