I made my first soaping video today and am having trouble uploading it using the USB connector. My camera is a Canon Vixia HR F62 and I'm totally clueless as to how to do this.

I tried to open it in Photoshop Elements with the USB connector and the software basically said it can't find the camera. I spent so much time trying to get that to work that now I'm recharging the battery and figured I'd see if anyone here has this is a similar camera and can guide me through getting the video uploaded.

I hope I didn't press a wrong button and delete it, but I don't think so. Guess I'm going to have to dig deeper in the 200 page manual to learn what all those symbols mean.

Hi June, not sure if I can help, but I'll try.

After looking at the canon site, I think you need a program to transfer files onto your PC.

After you download PIXELA’s software Transfer Utility LE from PIXELA’s Website and install it on your Windows computer, you can easily transfer to the computer AVCHD movies you recorded.

You can download the software and software guide from PIXELA’s Web site. Follow the instructions on the Web site below to download and open the ZIP file, which contains the installation module and software guide (PDF file*). http://pixela.jp/cetule_dl

Both of these quotes are from the Transfer Utility Guide.

So I think your best bet is to try downloading that software from http://pixela.jp/cetule_dl

Good luck!

What kind of computer are you using? PC or Mac?
What operating system?
Looking at the link from Stacy above, are you storing the video on internal memory or do you have an SD card in the camera?
It looks like you can store the video as MP4 or AVCHD. I would use MP4 as it seems a more common format.

Usually your computer should detect the camera when connected via USB, and you should be able to open it as a storage location in your file explorer. Then you should be able to drag it onto your desktop and it should copy, no special software needed - tho I have never used this kind of camera - this is how it works with my Nikon DSLR and my phone.

I also have a small hand held Kodak video camera, that I have to take out the SD card and put it into a card reader to access files.

Thanks everyone!

Thanks Stacy. I did download that software last night but still got the error message. I have no idea of the settings I used to take the video. My sister-in-law or our daughter, both who left a couple of weeks ago set up the camera when I got it.

My laptop is using Windows 10 which I downloaded over the Windows 8 which came with it a few weeks ago.

I was able to view the video on the camera and play it for my husband yesterday, before I tried to upload it.

I have an SD card in there, but I have no idea if the video was put on there or in the memory on the unit itself. Guess I have a lot more reading to do,.

The manual was a 200 page download that cost me $40 in black ink to print out and that was with skipping some of the pages,. I sure hope I can figure this out by myself!

Thanks Stacy

Well the other option is what kchaystack was suggesting which is to access the camera/card directly.

Your other obstacle is that Windows 10 might not have drivers for your camera (yet).

First option - When you plug the camera in look carefully for a window in the bottom right corner (as far as I know it's always down there) that says something to the effect of "click here to decide what to do with this device" or "removable drive detected" - if you click on that window, it should bring up a menu that says import video/pictures.

If that window doesn't pop up your other option is to go into file explorer (Start Menu>File explorer) Click on "This PC" on the left. Now you should see your main drive(s). At least one should be called Removable Drive (you might have two if you have a internal drive and a removable card on your camera). You can click on that icon to explore the memory directly.

Unfortunately It can be a bit of a maze finding the files themselves. For instance I use a Sony and my photos are in a folder called DCIM, but to get to video files, I have to go into PRIVATE\AVCHD\BDMV\STREAM. I can't really help you out much there because I'm unfamiliar with Cannon and their file structure.

Just an update - got the video uploaded after I found out where Windows 10 put it! Now i have to figure out how to edit it. I've just been too busy the past two day with other household and computer things.

I'm going to start another thread on video editing and see if i can get some hints and suggestions on software for that chore.
