Hello everyone, need some help. I used a moon shape mold, to cast the moon ( have attached the recipe )
opened the mold after 3 days and used in a soap recipe almost similar to what I used to create the moon. On cutting my soap today, observed some marks/ stains on the moon.. What could this be ?
This is the second time it has happened.. could this be un-reacted lye solution ..

Did you use titanium dioxide for the moon? It looks like to me that there are some particles of uncolored soap in the moon.

Is it spots, or chunks falling out?

Well, not chunks falling out. Seems to embedded both the sides on all the soap bars after cutting them...

Yes, I did use titanium dioxide for the moon.
The first time I made the moon, had a similar result .. ( picture I posted was the 2nd time I tried )

I did use half teaspoon titanium dioxide mixed with glycerin, and pored into the mold at thin trace.

I agree that it looks like the glycerin separated out. You probably need to use much less, and mix it more thoroughly.

FWIW, you can get glycerin "rivers" (not really, but that's the common term) using TD even without added glycerin. I think it's kind of a nice effect for any celestial body - makes it look more realistic.
