Important Advocacy Update: New Regulations for Cosmetics in the United States |
As you know, in December of 2022, congress passed The Modernization of Cosmetic Regulations Act or MoCRA. Even though the bill passed, The Food, Drug & Cosmetic Act of 1938 is still the law of the land until MoCRA is officially enacted. The FDA is currently starting the process of enacting MoCRA and they are holding a public hearing on Good Manufacturing Practices on June 1, 2023. This will be a virtual hearing open to the public and we encourage you to attend. There will be a list of registered speakers, the HSCG Executive Director Leigh O’Donnell will be speaking at approximately 11:15 AM. She will be offering a statement on protecting small businesses as new GMP regulations are promulgated for the cosmetic industry. You must register to attend this hearing virtually here: https://www.fda.gov/cosmetics/cosmetics-news-events/public-meeting-good-manufacturing-practices-cosmetic-products-06012023#event-information The HSCG will keep you informed on MoCRA as it moves through the rule-making process to enactment. This process could take several years. Until that time, please continue to follow current laws governing cosmetics in the United States. Thank you for being a member, it is your dues that allow us to advocate on your behalf. |
