In my minuscule experience, if you want to have even color and no clumping, mixing in a little alcohol first is a must.

okay, I have a question then... how do you prevent clumping? the first time I tried it straight into the mix, I got some bit that clumped together and made dark spots in my soap.

you have to stir it really well after melted. I always just mix my mica in with my m&p, never use additional glycerin, or alcohol (yes, shunt is right it forms a weird skin on the soap) and have never had a problem. Sometimes I get a bit over zealous with my stirring and have to slightly spritz the M&P with alcohol to remove the bubbles, but one small spritz will do the trick for that.
